Lesson Nine: Fish & Flowers Study Guide

Chapter 10

Plants


Non-magical plants are inanimate, where as magical plants can be animate. Devil's Snare & Bouncing Bulbs are examples of animate magical plants. Some magical plants that are unknown animates are dandelions, dittany, & raskovnik.


Fish


Fish are marine creatures that have gills, skulls, & fins. Fish have a wide range of types. Small fish include goldfish, danios, angelfish, & betta fish. Smaller fish eat algae & plants, where as larger fish will eat other smaller fish & some animals. They can live in freshwater & saltwater. Its gills are used to breathe in the oxygen from the water.


Flowers


Flowers are found on trees & bushes. They can fertilize themselves or require it from other plants. Flowers need water, sunlight, & soil nutrients to grow.

Parts of a flower:
Pistil (stigma, style, ovary)
Stamen (filament, anther)
Sepal
Stem
Pedals


Spell


In 1901, Olivia Penhollow created this spell. To transfer her fish to multiple ponds throughout the town, she transfigured the fish into flowers. Visualize a flower of your choosing. If the spell fails, the flower may breathe or wiggle around. The flower pedals may look like scales.

Incantation: Herpiscis (er-PIS-kiss)
Wand Movement: Circle around the fish

Willpower: Low to medium


Fun Facts
Starfish & jellyfish do not fall under the fish category.
Fish have scales & a layer of mucus to protect themselves.
They have a low mentality rate due to the size of their brain.
Today, this spell is mainly used for learning, tricks, & the occasional kind gesture for someone special.
