Tess Falcon; First Year At Hogwarts {Finished Book}

written by Faye Chuchoter

Nonoahohay Falcon was not a normal person. Normal people aren't born with a wizard for a dad and a mermaid for a mum, witches that get invited to a magical school, get a wand at a wizarding shop, have a godmother that can change her looks at will, can't talk to snakes or are related to the greatest known Dark wizard of all time. Nonoahohay (or Tess) has no idea of the challenges and hardships she will face as she goes through her first year at Hogwarts.

A Pleasant Surprise

Chapter 19

At 5:30 in the morning, I laid, awake, in my bed.  Why did my parents disappear?  What happened?  How- Abigail sat up in her bed.  I glanced at her, and she noticed.  She crawled out of her bed and in mine.  I allowed it.  She whispered, "Are you OK?"  I looked at her.  "Yesterday I found out some big things about my parents.  They're dead."  "Oh.  Sorry."  Abigail got up.  "Uh, I'm going back to bed." I nodded, then fell asleep.

When I woke up, everyone was gone, and I assumed they were at breakfast.  I got up and took a shower.  As I put my robes on, I felt something in my pocket.  I reached inside and pulled out two letters.  I remembered when I pocketed them Halloween morning.  I read mum's letter first.

Dear Nonoahohay,

You sound like you're having so much fun!  I hope I can meet your friends soon!  Maybe you can invite them over for Christmas!  Those classes you take are unlike any other I've ever heard of!  Please inform me if your friends can come over as soon as you can, so I can get the house ready and clean.  Who is your archenemy?  What's she like?  You don't have to answer those questions, I just want to know.  I know Tonks because she was the one that told us we'll be adopting you and bringing you over.  She was very kind, and she told me she was your godmother.  I'm so proud of you for getting into Hogwarts!  I hope you don't regret your decision to come here, and I love you so much!

Love,                                                                                                                                                                                               Mum

I laughed to myself how she ended almost all of the sentences in exclamation points.  I opened Tonks' letter, excited at what I was about to read.

Dear Tess,

I don't know if you know this, but your mother's a mermaid.  So that makes you a half-mermaid.  And I was your father's best friend before he died.  That's how I'm your godmother.  And being a mermaid is anything but normal!  I wish I can see you soon!  I also hope that you can help me with something top-secret.  I'll tell you at your house for Christmas.  Expect me around then.  Love ya!

Love/From,                                                                                                                                                                                     Tonks

I smiled.  Knowing mum would want me to write her back ASAP (as soon as possible), I headed for the owlery.  Glancing at my letter, I ran right into Ginny.  She looked nervous.  I asked her, "Are you okay?  Oh yeah, my mum-I mean, I was wondering if you wanted to come over to my house for Christmas.  Please?!  It would be so fun! You can meet my parents and my little sister.  I can show you around my house, and we'll have a great time!  I promise!"  Ginny said, "Well, my parents are visiting my older brother Bill in Egypt.  But... I'll owl my mum and ask her if I can come over."  I shouted, "Hurray!" and punched the air.

We headed to the owlery together.  She asked her mum if she can come over, and I told my mum she'll be coming over and I told her about Dracine and listed all of my friend's names.  Then I told Tonks that I'll be planning on her visit and that Dumbledore knew I was a mermaid and told me about my parents.  Then I went down to breakfast with Ginny.  I couldn't wait for Christmas!
