Sept. 1 First Day
Chapter 1
Excitement coursed through me as the Great Hall doors were opened. This was going to be my home. I grabbed my friend Poppy’s hand, I could feel the sweat dripping from it. I changed my gaze from Poppy to the large room in front of me.
I could not believe my eyes. The Great Hall was much larger than I imagined, with room for many many students and teachers. Candles were suspended in the air, lighting the room with a welcoming glow. There were many tables filled with students chatting with one another.
We started to walk into the building and many heads turned to look at us. I pulled my hood over my head. People made me so nervous.
Suddenly Poppy’s hand wasn’t grasping mine. Where was she? People pushed me around and I was so lost.

“Fletcher, Mahalia” I stood up from my seat and walked towards Mcgonagall, who was holding a grimy old hat. I nervously sat on a stool as Mcgonagall placed the Sorting Hat on my head. “Clever you are, young child, but I can smell your determination, a Slytherin quality of course, but you are ready to learn something new” There was a pause and I realized I had stopped breathing, this was really real wasn’t it? “RAVENCLAW” I jumped in my seat, forgetting where I was and what was happening.
Applause echoed through the Great Hall and I covered my ears as I walked to the Ravenclaw Table. Yes, it was pathetic but I did not care.
Much later there were soon two girls sitting next to me. One had almost white hair, glistening in the glowing light and the other silky black hair. I kept glancing at the blonde girl and she noticed me. “Hello,” she said calmly. I blushed, hard. “I’m Luna Lovegood, and who are you?” she asked, smiling. “Mahalia, or Hailey, whatever you like”

As all of the Hogwarts first years walked to their respective houses I noticed the paintings on the walls of the huge building. They moved. I was not used to moving photos as I was a muggle born. They were quite interesting, some smiled, some waved, some looked annoyed, some were sleeping, there were so many.
