Chapter 1
The grass blew in my face as I lay in it. Daddy was calling, so I left my place. I bounded up to Daddy, and I licked his face with my furry snout. If you haven’t guessed by now, I am Daddy’s faithful dog, Pixie. I sat down as daddy shook his head. He motioned to the big silver, metal thing. I looked at him like he was crazy, but then I noticed all four of my dear little children each sitting in the chairs; waiting for me. I jumped right in sitting on the floor by Allison and Sonny. They pet behind my ears and- Oh that’s the spot…
“Pixie! We are going to the beach!” Galaxy said from the back of the moving object. Major laughed next to her, pulling the ear plugs out of his ears. Mamma climbed in next to Daddy, and doors of the metal object closed.
I don’t understand why humans can’t just run everywhere? Maybe it is because they don’t have four strong legs like I do. Instead they have two weak ones! What a world…
I lay down. It was so boring, no chickens to herd or deer to chase, so I slept. When I awoke it was pitch black outside, and the kids were asleep. Mommy and Daddy were awake, talking about who knows what. Human stuff…
We then arrived to a steep hill, where a small house sat. Sonny jolted up, asking where we were. Mommy turned around, telling him everything was okay. Daddy pushed on the gas, and the ‘car’ scraped the pavement below, but made it up the hill. Mamma got out of the van and opened a really big door. Then the door swallowed us! We were being eaten! More doors opened from the car, and daddy put me on a leash. The children all stumbled out of the van, and I followed daddy, occasionally pulling the leash to sniff the stairs.
It looked like we were in a large room that held cars. I think the cars sleep in here… Anyways, Daddy lead us to a small door with a prickly rug in front. Daddy opened the door, and we all tumbled into a tiny room.

Morning came, but no light filled the windowless bedroom. Mommy and daddy slept on the only bed, while the children slept on the couch and floor. The floor was dirty, but I didn’t mind. Mommy woke up the kids, and they folded the soft blankets. I walked around sniffing the small area.
We all piled back into the car. Major and Galaxy were in the front with me, and we tried to slowly back down the driveway. SCREECH! The car was hitting the ground because it was so steep. Daddy went back forward, but it happened again and again. Finally, I had enough. I jump in front, and crawl under daddy’s legs.
“Daddy stop!” I whined. Daddy was really surprised, and he tried to push me back in to my doggie bed. I think daddy understood me, because all the kids plus mommy got out of the van. It looked like he just made it down, as we all climbed back in.
The long boring trip began once more, but this time I didn’t sleep; I listened. Allison read from a boo called Harry Potter. It was about a young boy who goes to a school who shoots magic with sticks. I would just eat the sticks if I were them.
Allison continued to read almost the whole trip, but when she stopped, the kids were talking about falling off a bridge. How did their conversation turn so quickly? Then I saw what they meant. Before us was a bridge that was so angled that it looked like these metal objects would fall off of the bridge. I jumped up, and leaned against Allison’s window.
“Welcome to Surf City!” A sign nearby said. It looked like we entered a city of colors. Every house was a different color. Salmon, baby blue, orange, gray, pink, and teal! We drove through winding streets, as we stopped at a blue two story house, Galaxy and Major almost screamed with joy. Really guys? This is not home! I want to go home!!!
Daddy unpacked the back of the car and brought it all up into the second story of the beach house. Allison had the leash, and put me in the gated porch on top. The wooden porch had sand all over it, and the air smelled like… Fish.
A door opened behind me, and Sonny came out of the house, “Pixie, come on. Inside.” I didn’t need to be asked again, so I leaped through the door.
