Chapter 12
Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindlewald;
Great battle or lovers' quarrel?
Everyone in the wizarding world has heard of Grindlewald's great defeat at the hands of Albus Dumbledore. In fact, it is something that he is still praised for. But, is what we have been told correct or are there gaps in history? As it reads, Grindlewald was gathering army and taking over everywhere while people were calling out for help, it was then Dumbledore stepped up. Why did it take so long? It is reported that it took no less than 2 years for Dumbledore to fight him and today you find out why.
With some wonderful reliable resources I have delved into the murky history of Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindlewald. It is not commonly known that Albus Dumbledore and his family lived in Godric's Hollow- the same place where The Dark Lord was vanquished and where the renowned historian Bathilda Bagshot still resides. Ms. Bagshot, the author of the famous A History of Magic lived in the quaint little village the same time as the Dumbledores and had introduced her great-nephew to the then sixteen-year-old Albus Dumbledore and they soon became great friends. It is not unusual, the village is small and the boy came from another country but with a little digging I have found the name of the allusive nephew- Gellert Grindlewald. Yes, it's right ladies and gentlemen Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindlewald were the best of friends. They became united by their ambitions for glory and their plans for a 'new world order' in which wizards would rule over muggles, they were often known to use the phrase 'For the Greater Good' which, even today Dumbledore is known to use.
After discovering how much they were alike they became romantically involved not long after and they had no qualms in aiding each other in experiments. Both brilliant and talented, they couldn't wait to spread their ideas to the others but unfortunately, Aberforth Dumbledore- Albus' younger brother stood in their way. You see, it is not popularly known that they had a younger sister named Arianna who he was left to care for after their mother's tragic death however little Arianna was terribly sick- the illness is unknown and Aberforth demanded Albus to stop their plans. But that didn't sit well for the two young genius' since they had plans for the world for which they had worked tirelessly for and someone was thwarting them from the beginning. It caused numerous arguments but then something happened. We do not know what exactly happened (though we think it might be related with Arianna Dumbledore's mysterious death) but Grindlewald fled the United Kingdom to carry out his plans without his dedicated lover. Grindlewald's rise of power was quick and he needed to be stopped quickly. The death count was rising rapidly and nothing to stop him, or so it seemed. It was only after years of cries from the people, Dumbledore rose to the occasion to face his ex-lover and resulted in the 'legendary duel', it wasn't anything that was witnessed by anyone and eyewitnesses saw Dumbledore coming out of the building with Grindlewald's wand in hand.
But with all this information coming to light can we be sure that Dumbledore is innocent in all of his actions? Was it really the cry of the public that sent him to fight the person who he once loved or was it out of heartache and pain that he faced him? Can we be sure that they weren't working together for all these years and their reunion didn't go as planned? After all, Grindlewald is still alive in the top-most cell of his own prison- Nurmengard, why is he still alive after all the crimes he has committed? Was it because Dumbledore was unable to turn his wand on the only person he ever loved? Or are they still in contact after all these years?
With this shocking discovery I seriously don't know what to think and the people of the wizarding world, I believe we deserve answers.
