In Which A Troll Is Battled, And Respect Is Gained
Chapter 1
Once upon a time, there lived a nasty little troll. The troll lived in the darkest part of the Forbidden Forest, a 'no man's land' nearby Hogwarts, a land that contained several smaller kingdoms. This troll would often scare the nice creatures who lived there. Eventually, the troll decided that it was not enough to scare innocent animals, and trudged its way to Hogwarts.
Every day, the hideous troll would work on entering Hogwarts. Since Hogwarts attempted to allow every student a safe place to be, the troll was able to walk through the gates. But the rules were different in the Great Hall, whose order was maintained by a select group known as Knights. Their leader and Queen was named Moira, and she did not approve of people -- or trolls -- trying to harass her citizens.
Each day, the troll would announce itself, with a rude name and a rude tone. While Moira was not always in the Great Hall (even Queens need sleep), the other CMs -- affectionately called Knights -- were able to push the troll back. But the troll was crafty, and each night hatched a different plan of varying cleverness to get into the Great Hall again.
The knights, helped by a wonderful witch named Cordelia, were unsure of what to do. "Moira," they said, "how can we banish this troll? All it does is incite rudeness!"
While Moira could not think of an answer on her own, she did have advisors -- a powerful sorcerer named Keith, and a wise King named Rubedo, whose Kingdom was adjacent to the lands of the Great Hall. "What shall I do to keep my kingdom safe, King Rubedo? Do you know of any traps, Sorcerer Keith?" Moira was distraught.
Luckily, Keith the Sorcerer was well-versed in defensive magic, and worked tirelessly on various traps to stop the troll. But while the troll was not particularly smart in most other ways, it was quite adept at offensive magic, and did its best to get in the Great Hall, even for the scant minutes it would stay there.
"I tire of this fighting," said Starlina, one of the Knights of the Great Hall.
"We all tire of this, Knights" replied an exhausted Moira, who had been working on battle plans for days and days.
It appeared that the troll, not happy enough with just being unkind on its own, had invited other smaller trolls to try to enter the Great Hall. Each day the Knights would fight off the trolls, successfully driving off some, but not all.
But the Knights were tiring, and so too were those around the Great Hall. They could hear the pounding at the doors, and while some laughed at the pathetic nature of the troll, others were frightened. The citizens of the Great Hall were not all battle-hardened Knights; many of them had yet to reach a teened age. And when it was clear that there was nothing else to do, Queen Moira turned to her knights.
"Knights, many of you have been helping keep peace in the Great Hall for many months. Others are freshly-knighted. All of you, however, have shown your mettle. I am proud to call you my Knights. However, it is clear that something else must be done with this troll. I will head out when the sun sets, and attempt to slay the troll myself."
The Knights were understandably worried. "But Queen! We are here to help you! Why turn us away at this final hour?"
The Queen shook her head. "There are times in which one must go alone. Besides, I need you here to keep the people of the Great Hall safe, in case my plan fails." With a fond salute to her Knights, the Queen set off on her valiant steed, an Arabian named Mickey.
It was not long before the Queen spotted the troll. Its brethren had long left the lands, and it was alone. "Why do you continuously harass and insult my people" the Queen cried out. "How does this benefit you?"
The troll paused, and smirked, its rotten teeth visible. "For fun" the troll sneered. "I cannot bear to see people happy, and your kingdom seems to be to complacent. How dare you band together at the sight of me, an almighty troll?"
The Queen saw that this troll could not be negotiated with. Unlike many of the dark wizards that had visited the Great Hall before, there was no possible redemption. "So be it, troll. It is clear we must do battle."
With a mighty swing of her great war banhammer, Queen Moira smashed the troll's head off alongside a battle cry of victory. Raising the head, she could hear her knights' cheers in the distance as she galloped back to the Great Hall.
She saw that, while many of her Knights had followed her orders, several had ventured out to ensure her safety. She smiled at the small collection of Knights, sweat dripping from her face from the exhaustive work of hammering a troll's head clean off. "Warning for not following the rules, dear Knights."
Albus, who was the Knight closest to her, laughed. "Were you not the one to teach us that no moderator should be left alone?"
With this, Queen Moira laughed, and let the troll's head fall to the ground. "You are right, all of you. Thank you." And with that, the Queen and her group of knights galloped back to the Great Hall, leaving the troll's head to rot, for no part of the troll would be allowed to stain the Great Hall and its people.
The Queen and her knights came back to loud cheering from the people, and had a wonderful feast in honour of the Queen's deeds. And from that day forth, the troll population dwindled into nothingness.
There were other troubles in the Great Hall, to be sure, but the Queen and her Knights (with the help of both citizens and advisors) were able to work together to bring as much peace as can possibly occur. And those troubles, of course, are for another time, and another story.
