Chapter 3
Hey everyone! I’m Jess Granger and although I’m a manager now I used to be a writer as well!
I remember checking everyday (when that was still around) for when the HDN would post. I would read and I was eager to join. I think the HDN was one of the very first groups I joined. Being new to HiH I was very new to talk to anyone. Looking back at the owls, I actually owled Samantha Love, the founder of HDN, to have my book advertise. Thinking about it I do remember it and being so excited when the article with my book came out! It was a couple weeks later when I applied. I was quickly promoted from an Intern to a permanent writer.
I then worked hard for several months. I also helped on the HiH Yearbook and The Golden Portkey Awards along the way. About 2 months later, I was promoted to a Head Writer. This was a very big deal for me.
Then, Celeste left. It was a shock and I was very much sad as she had been so kind. Positions for the new manager came out soon after and I applied quickly.
It was December 26 2020, when I was promoted to a manager! The interview was very stressful but I found out at the end I got promoted. I flipped out and was super excited. Lucy Pena became inactive when I was promoted. She told everyone was sick but then she never came back. Recently, a friend posted on her wall saying she died from cancer in December 2020. My heart sank when I found out and I would just like take a minute to acknowledge her. She was a very kind, super amazing human being who will be dearly missed. Rest in Peace Lucy.
In February, Samantha decided to leave the HDN. I was heartbroken and I remember the day I got the owl so vividly. Later, she decided to stay but now she has officially left. She said she will come back every now and again but I don’t feel it’s the same without her.
Now, I have been apart of the HDN for quite a few months (9 months and 5 days to be precise) and I have enjoyed every second. I have been so privileged and had so many opportunities! I can’t believe I am apart of this amazing family! Thanks everyone for being so kind and creating so many happy memories!
Another thanks to all the readers for supporting the HDN! Thanks for reading, giving feedback and loving our newspaper. We truly wouldn’t be here without you!
Special mentions to Samantha Love, Kaela Black, Celeste Evergreen, Lilac Ellise, Lucy Pena, Belle Brookes, Daisy Fire and many more who have put so much time and effort into the HDN!
Best wishes to everyone! Stay safe and Happy 1 Year Anniversary!
