Chapter 2
The Gryffindor House made in honor of Godric Gryffindor. He was the founder of the Gryffindor House, and it was he who came up with the idea of the Sorting Hat. By using his hat, he turned a regular old wizard hat into a wise, talking, sorting device.
The ghost that haunts the Gryffindor house and tower is the ghost named Sir Nicholas de Mimsy Poppington. Although he is mostly well-known as, "Nearly Headless Nick", everyone else calls him. Some details of Nick's beheadment is unclear, but it is known that it was done incorrectly. What we do know is that he was attacked and was hit twenty-seven (27) times with a blunt axe, which killed him, but did not properly decapitate him.
Another fact known about him is that he is over five hundred (500) dead. The legend Harry Potter and his friends were invited to Nick's Death Day party, as told in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He was also Petrified in Harry Potter's second (2nd) year, as the Basilisk came out from the Chamber of Secrets and Nick looked into its eyes. In the process, he saved Justin Flinch-Fletchley (without meaning to). Since he could not die again, after Madam Pomfrey brewed the Mandrakes and un-Petrified the victims of the Basilisk's attack, he was back to his normal ghostly self.
Since Nick is not properly decapitated, he has also been rejected from joining The Headless Hunt on many occasions. This irritates him greatly, as he confides in Harry after one of his Quidditch practices. This is also when Nick invites Harr\y and his friends to his Death Day party.
If you meet Nearly Headless Nick, it is best not to start your conversation with him about his decapitation. It is not his favorite tea-time discussion. But he is a very helpful ghost, and will help you find your way around the castle.
