A long time ago, Hogwarts was founded by its four founders: Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff, Rowena Ravenclaw, and Salazar Slytherin. Each with a personal history and a different personality, they came together to create the school that you are standing in.

The founders' main goal was to teach magical learning to young witches and wizards. Each House has a certain quality/qualities that they look for, with the help of the Sorting Hat (see Godric Gryffindor).

Along with the founders, the ghosts of each house show qualities from each house. Some "ghosts" aren't ghosts at all (see Peeves) and some don't belong to a house (see Moaning Myrtle).
