The Ball
Chapter 2
Elaine was waiting outside of the great hall, waiting anxiously. Her hair was braided, and she was wearing a black, flowy, off-the-shoulders dress. Gabriel raced towards her, panting. His hair was messy as always, and he wore black dress robes. Elaine grinned as Gabriel skidded to a stop. He stared at Elaine. “You look...nice,” he said, blushing.
Elaine grinned at his terrible flirting skills. “As do you,” she said, curtsying. “Shall we go in, then?”
“We shall,” Gabriel said, taking Elaine’s hand as they walked into the great hall. It was beautiful. Four Christmas trees were in each corner of the hall, each representing a different house. The Hufflepuff tree had yellow lights and badger ornaments, while the Slytherin tree had green lights and serpent ornaments.
Someone on a large pedestal started playing a fast song. Gabriel led Elaine to the dance floor, while they both danced, indifferent to their horrible dancing. When a slow song started playing, they sat down in chairs, drinking punch and exchanging laughable stories until a fast song started playing again.
But when another slow song started playing, (a waltz, to be exact) Gabriel didn’t follow Elaine to the chairs. “May I?” he asked, extending a hand towards her. She was surprised, but accepted the offer. They slowly danced, Gabriel almost stepping on Elaine’s foot several times. When the waltz was over, Elaine pecked Gabriel on the cheek. “Thank you for being my friend,” she said. Then she ran away to talk to Hannah, who had been watching the entire time with a grin on her face.
