Forever and always
Chapter 1
Elaine stood in the hallway, gazing at the students swarming by, eager to make the best of their break. She saw Jessa pass, her nose in the air. She was surrounded by other adoring Slytherins, telling her how lovely her hair looked, how pretty her makeup was...blah, blah, blah.
Elaine made her way to an empty classroom to avoid the hustle and bustle of the halls. She sat down in a dusty chair and opened her bookbag, taking out a hat that she was supposed to turn into a scarf. She took out her maple wand and aimed it at the hat, concentrating. Forget about Jessa, she told herself. Concentrate…
“I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
She looked up to see Gabriel, grinning at her. “Gabe!” she said in surprise. “Aren’t you supposed to be in Quidditch practice?”
“Nah, they kicked me off the team.” Elaine gasped. “But you’re such a good player! Why would they kick you off?” Gabriel ran his fingers through his jet black hair. “I purposely hit Harkins in the face with a bludger, and now he’s in the hospital wing. He was asking for it, though,” he added hastily, seeing Elaine’s look of disbelief. “He...well, he, um...he insulted you...so, I, um...I hit him with the bludger...so, yeah…” Gabriel’s face turned bright red.
“Really?” Elaine asked, face glowing. Gabriel nodded. Then, out of the blue, Elaine ran up to him and hugged him, which caused his face to turn redder. “Thank you,” she murmured. “You’re the best friend I could ever ask for.”
“Well, stop trying to suffocate me, then,” Gabriel chuckled. They stood there for five minutes straight, embracing as if nothing else mattered in the world.
“A formal ball?” a girl gasped from the hall. Gabriel and Elaine broke apart. “I can’t belieeeeeeve it! See, Jessa, listen! ‘A formal ball will take place on December 20th, starting at 8:00 pm and going on till midnight!’ Isn’t that wonderful?”
“Ugh, I couldn’t care less, but whatever,” Jessa said. Gabriel and Elaine stepped into the hall, reading the notice pinned to the wall. Sure enough, it read ‘The Hogwarts Ball’. Gabriel glanced at Elaine, and she glanced back, blushing.
One thing was for sure; The Hogwarts Ball would be held on December 20th, 8:00 pm, and everyone in the school was going.
