Top 5 Sad Books (Recommendation)
Chapter 3
Welcome back to the series! Today I’m doing Top 5 Sad Books!
5. We Were Liars-
Plot Description: A beautiful and distinguished family.
A private island.
A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy.
A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive.
A revolution. An accident. A secret.
Lies upon lies.
True love.
The truth.
Spoiler Free Review: At first, I didn’t understand why people said this book “shattered them” or “they cried for hours” but when I got to the end I did. The ending truly shocked me and it took me a while to process it.
4. They Both Die At The End-
Plot Description: On September 5, a little after midnight, Death-Cast calls Mateo Torrez and Rufus Emeterio to give them some bad news: They’re going to die today.
Mateo and Rufus are total strangers, but, for different reasons, they’re both looking to make a new friend on their End Day. The good news: There’s an app for that. It’s called the Last Friend, and through it, Rufus and Mateo are about to meet up for one last great adventure—to live a lifetime in a single day.
Spoiler Free Review: It’s kinda hard not to spoil this considering the title but anyways. Even though I knew what was going to happen, the ending still made me tear up.
3. The Outsiders-
Plot Description: The Outsiders is about two weeks in the life of a 14-year-old boy. The novel tells the story of Ponyboy Curtis and his struggles with right and wrong in a society in which he believes that he is an outsider. According to Ponyboy, there are two kinds of people in the world: greasers and socs. A soc (short for "social") has money, can get away with just about anything, and has an attitude longer than a limousine. A greaser, on the other hand, always lives on the outside and needs to watch his back. Ponyboy is a greaser, and he's always been proud of it, even willing to rumble against a gang of socs for the sake of his fellow greasers--until one terrible night when his friend Johnny does something terrible. It gets under Ponyboy's skin, causing his bifurcated world to crumble and teaching him that pain feels the same whether a soc or a greaser.
Spoiler Free Review: My mum had to convince me to read this and I’m glad she did. This book completely changed me and rocked my world. I just sat there and wallowed in my sorrows for a while.
2. The Girl, The Dog & The Writer-
Plot Description: He's the world's vaguest novelist. She's a shy and unusual child. Together, they're travelling the world, one book a time.

For the first ten years of Freja's life, she and her mother Clementine have roamed the Arctic in search of zoological wonders. Happy, content, together. Freja and Clem. Clem and Freja. Spoiler Free Review: This is the first book, which is still amazing, but the book that made me cry is the last book in this series. I got so attached to the characters and the ending made me cry. This series is one of my favourites of all time.
Once-
Plot Description: Once by Morris Gleitzman is the story of a young Jewish boy who is determined to escape the orphanage he lives in to save his Jewish parents from the Nazis in the occupied Poland of the Second World War.
Everybody deserves to have something good in their life. At least Once.
Once I escaped from an orphanage to find Mum and Dad.
Once I saved a girl called Zelda from a burning house.
Once I made a Nazi with a toothache laugh.
My name is Felix. This is my story.
Spoiler Free Review: This series of books is just sad in general but the book that made me cry is called After. It’s very deep and life changing. Whenever I go to war memorials or talk about war in class, this book comes to mind. Warning- This book covers World War II and is very gory and explains things in explicit details. If you can’t handle a lot of that stuff I wouldn’t recommend you read this.
