The Train Ride

Chapter 2

As the train sped away from the station, an old woman came by with a trolley of candy. Luna had not brought any money with her, so she could not buy anything. She watched as the three other girls bought their candy.

"Let me buy you a cauldron cake!" the blonde girl said to the brown-haired girl.

"Thanks!" she replied. "Don't buy anything for her, though," she whispered, pointing at Luna. "Everyone has been making fun of her strange glasses."

"Have they?" Luna asked politely. She hadn't heard anything. At this, the two girls left the compartment and headed for an empty one nearby.

"That was embarrassing!" Luna heard one of them say. Now, only a red-haired girl remained.

"Sorry about that," the girl said. "Some people are not very polite."

"It's okay," she replied. "My name is Luna Lovegood."

"Ginny Weasley," said the girl. "Nice to meet you." They shook hands.

"What is your family like?" Luna asked. "I live with only my father. My mother died when I was young."

"I'm so sorry," Ginny replied. "I have a large family. I live with both parents, and I have five brothers."

"That must be interesting" Luna said curiously. "Do you all fight often?" Her family was very small, so large families interested her.

"Yes," Ginny replied, smiling. "But our fights are never too serious."

"Have you had your house inspected for wrackspurts? They can cause problems with families," Luna suggested. Her father had the house inspected monthly. This is why they never fought.

"Well, we had never really thought about that," Ginny slowly replied. "I will ask my parents about it sometime." They rode the rest of the way in silence.
