--DIY: SORTING HAT BATH BOMB--
_________________________________
--WHAT YOU'LL NEED--
-- A large mixing bowl
-- 4 Small Mixing bowls
-- small round bath bomb moulds and the large bath bombs
-- Kitchen scales
-- A hand sprayer containing clean cold water
*I’m afraid we do not supply wands so you’re going to have to do this one with your own hands!*
--BASIC INGREDIENTS--
-- 600g Bicarbonate of Soda
-- 200g Citric Acid
-- 25ml Fragrance Oil or Essential Oil of your choice
--EXTRAS--
-- A Hand Sprayer containing Isopropyl Alcohol
-- Caribbean Yellow Coated Mica
-- Tangerine Red Coated Mica
-- Chromium Oxide Green Hydrated
-- Blue Coated Mica
-- 4 Small Paint Brushes
-- 4 Small containers
--Step 1
Measure out the bicarbonate of soda and the citric acid into the mixing bowl. Sieve if necessary and thoroughly mix together until you have a consistent texture. Add fragrance if you wish and make sure this is also thoroughly mixed in.
--Step 2
To make it easier and to also use up as much of the mixture as possible, split the mixture in equal amounts in to 4 bowls. These 4 separate mixtures are going to be for each house colour.
--Step 3
You now have your 4 bowls of bath bomb mixture. For the first bowl, You can use a Red powder colour. Using a teaspoon, carefully add ¼ teaspoon of the red colour to your mixture and mix in thorough. If your mixture isn’t as bright as you would like it, just keep adding the colour powder little by little until you achieve the colour you wish for. We need deep red for Gryffindor’s House colour.
--Step 4
Gryffindor mixture is complete! Now it’s time for moulding. Using a hand sprayer, a little at a time and working the mixture all the time, Make sure you mix continuously to avoid it fizzing-up in the bowl and ONLY ADD ENOUGH WATER TO HAVE THE MIXTURE START TO HOLD TOGETHER WHEN LIGHTLY SQUEEZED IN YOUR HAND.
--Step 5
To begin with, You need small round moulds for your coloured mixtures. These small moulds will make mini bath bombs that once dry. Fill each half just proud of the surface and press together for a few moments
--Step 6
Then remove one half, being careful not to let the bath bomb fall out. You will now see that you have formed a small round pink Bath Bomb! Leave this one in its mould so it can dry ready for later. You can make as many with this mixture as you wish.
--Step 7
Repeat steps 3, 4, 5 and 6 but with my other House colours for Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff! Once you have at least 4 different colour small bath bombs, leave them to dry for a while in their moulds.
--Step 8
Repeat step one to create your white mixture in a new and clean bowl. When you do this make sure you stay clear of any colour! You don’t want to give away any hints now.
--Step 9
You now have your white mixture ready for moulding. Repeat step 4 so that the mixture is at the right texture to then add to the larger mould for forming.
--Step 10
You can now remove your little coloured bath bomb from their moulds. If they are still a little wet, leave them for longer to dry.
--Step 11
Just like in step 5, fill each half of the larger round mould with my white mixture. Once again, just like step 5, press both halves together to form the bath bomb. Your little coloured bath bomb should now be hidden inside!
--Step 12
Now leave these to dry for a while in their mould! Whilst you wait, you can grab your 4 little containers, 4 paintbrushes and the colours used for the House coloured mini bath bombs.
--Step 13
Now add a little scoop of each colour in to a separate container. You should now have 4 containers with 4 different colours in. Using a hand sprayer with the alcohol in, spray the coloured powder little by little until you create a paint-like texture. Do this for each colour. Once done, these will be the paints to decorate the bath bomb once dry.
--Step 14
Once your bath bombs are dry, using your 4 house coloured paints, create a simple pattern pictured below. Feel free to decorate the bath bombs however you like!
--Step 15
Mix these up and use them in your bath or hot water to find out which house you’re in! Why not get everyone else involved? Until then we'll see you all on platform ¾ on 1st day of term!
