Ordinary Girl

Chapter 1
Angela Boardman shook her brown straight hair off her face. She sighed and looked up at the school. She didn't look forward going to school, she would have rather preferred to stay at home and persuade her mother to home-school her. But her mother wasn't that type of person. She was kind, but she did not like to teach her children. Angela wondered why. She bit her lip and moved on towards the school. She crossed the playground and entered the school. So many kids were shoving, talking and screaming and Angela blocked her ears. She hated how schools were so noisy.
The bell rang, announcing that is was time for classes. She sighed and made her way through the crowd of girls. Angela didn't have any friends. Well, there was Lily, but she wasn't around all the time, and Angela didn't think her as a proper friend.
The first subject was maths, and Angela hated maths. I mean, everyone did. Who would like maths? She made her way into the classroom and sat down on her usual desk. She looked up at Mr Lengworthy, who taught maths. Mr Lengworthy was kind and fair, and she liked him, even if he did teach maths.
Mr Lengworthy smiled at the class, and Angela was the only one who smiled back. No one really liked Mr Lengworthy, they thought he was dumb and they called him 'Langy'. Angela hated this. He seemed like the only really nice teacher. And how could they call him dumb, when he was so clever at maths? She had asked someone this, and they had replied, saying they called him dumb because he looked dumb. Angela had been shocked at this. How mean the class was!
"Today we will be going into fractions," said Mr Lengworthy.
The class groaned and even Angela groaned. She did not like fractions. She didn't understand them - very well. But she listened to what Mr Lengworthy said. She glanced around at the class, who looked like they weren't listening. Well, when Mr Lengworthy gave them a quiz about fractions, she would get them all right, and the rest of the class wouldn't! And that would serve them right. They wouldn't have listened!

Angela sucked her juice through a straw, thinking about school. She had done very well at maths, to her own surprise, and had completed the quiz with top marks! She had been also good at science and history. But she had done bad at geography. And Art wasn't her speciality, either. Angela sighed and thought that she could have done better.
Just then her mother entered the room, and smiled warmly at Angela. Angela smiled back.
"How was school, Angela? I didn't hear you come in."
"Oh, it was okay. I was quite good at maths and science and history today. But Art and geography are not my specialities."
"Well, being good at three subjects is fine. Very good, actually."
"Thanks, mum. I think I might have a rest, now. I get quite tired after being at school."
"Yes, you have that nap, darling. I'll start to make dinner and wake you up when it's ready."
Angela walked into her room, picked up a blanket, jumped onto her bed and lay down, then put the blanket on top of her. She closed her eyes and soon fell asleep.
