Screaming, Yelling, Fighting

Chapter 24

All I heard was the screaming. The yelling. The fighting. Smelling the stench of alcohol was always there too along with the constant cold. Not weather cold. Just cold.

I sat shivering on the floor despite the sunny warmth outside. There were crashes and yelling like always.

"YOU'RE GOOD FOR NOTHING! HOW COULD YOU NOT TELL ME ABOUT THIS!!"

"YOU CAN FIND OUT ON YOUR OWN!"

"SHUT UP!!!"

I just curled up tighter, trying and failing to block out the noise. Then nothing. The yelling stopped. Everything stopped. There was nothing. I peek down the stairs that lead to where they were fighting. They stood in the kitchen whispering to each other. I carefully leaned closer towards them, watching out for the creaky floorboards.

"They weren't supposed to look for her. He wasn't supposed to come back." my father whispered sharply.

"Yeah well that's what you get for not listening to me."

They continued to whipser but I didn't understand anything they were talking about. Who was they? Who is he? Who were they looking for?

Everyhting was too loud yet too quiet. Nothing made a sound which made the silence deadly. Where? is all I could think as I stood in the cold air. The freezing wind stung my skin but I was too numb to actually feel it. Then there was another painful scream which made me wish there was nothing but the endless silence.

I race towards the abandoned buildings with my heart beating so loud that I could barely hear the next scream. One phrase kept repeating over and over in my head.

My Fault.

My Fault.

My Fault.

I rounded an old dusty shelf and came to a stop instantly. Red rimmed my vision as I spotted lots of red on the floor. The smell didn't match that rusted metal smell blood had but my head was pounding too hard to calm down. All my eyes could see was the red on the floor which probably explained the glazed wetness to them, my nose on the other hand was trying to tell myself that whatever the red was, it wasn't blood.

My head kept pounding and my heartbeat was thundering. They drowned out the silent night. I didn't hear the footsteps behind me. I could barely hear a word they were saying to me.
"Vianna?"

I turned to find... a stranger. He had dark brown hair and his skin was a warm biege. His eyes were a dark brown as well and they held a certian journey of hardship, grief, and regret in them as they stared into mine. His features looked familiar but I couldn't place why.

"Who...who are you?" I ask carefully as I back up a step from him.
