Chapter Six ~Tracy~
Chapter 7
After I had left Jessica's house I went straight to my house. I researched all night about Olivia and nothing much came up except that blog and an article about her mysterious death. I knew I wasn't a detective but I had to find out how she died.
So the next day, after school, I found myself at Littleton's mall, where Olivia had died. I had to find out how she died, if she was dead, and where was her body or evidence of her supposed death.
I had just gotten my driver's license not long ago so I parked my car right in front of the place where I remembered Olivia's mother dropped Olivia off. I opened my car door and got out, looking over to the bench that me, Jessica, and Jase had sat on when Olivia had come.
I walked over to the doors of the mall, which were boarded up with thick wood. I knew my mother had put a crowbar in my trunk in case of emergencies. I got it and struck the woods hard with the crowbar, creating a large crack in the boards.
I kept the fast pace in hitting until I made a hole large enough for me to fit through. I ducked in the hole and peeked in. It was dark inside of the mall and unkept. There was food all over the ground and many chairs were toppled onto the ground.
I organized the table where Olivia and everyone had sat in and many stores that were locked up or open.
I wanted to go inside but I got the feeling that the man in the mask would be there. But I also didn't want to go inside because maybe I could ask Jase and Jessica to come, all of Olivia's friends hunting down her killer and finding out about her death.
Then a loud noise came through the mall, sounding like a crash. I jumped back away from the opening, falling on my hands and knees.
What was that noise…
I was creeped out. I suddenly felt as if the man was actually in the mall watching me, Olivia hidden somewhere. The funny thing was that they didn't find Olivia's body in the mall either or a single speck of blood or anything. It was as if it was all fake. Which it wasn't.
I grabbed the crowbar that I dropped and fixed the boards up the best I could. I ran into my car, locking the doors.
It was when I finally relaxed a bit was when I finally let out a breath. I must've been holding it the whole time I was close to the mall.
I breathed heavily, staring through the window at the mall, shivers creeping down my spine. I would never go into that mall alone or even close to it without anyone with me.
Right when I got home, I decided. Was when I would call my friends to tell them to join me. They would because they would want to avenge Olivia.
I knew Jase and Jessica definitely would. They were both in a wreck about Olivia, hallucinations, flashbacks, dangerous memories.
I wanted to smile to myself at the great adventure I would be planning but since I was so close to the mall I only felt unease and fear. It was all making me frightened.
I closed my eyes and breathed slowly before I started up my car and drove away from the mall that held both secrets and nightmares.
When I got home, my mother was waiting for me. Right. I told her I was going to go to my friend Kristina's house.
"How was Kristina?" Mom asked me.
"Great." I answered quickly. I changed the subject. "Did you hear? Jase came back to school today."
"Mhm. I heard from his mother. Did you see him at school?" Mom sat down on the couch, a cup of coffee in hand.
Coffee? Seriously?
I shook my head distractedly. "No." I said.
"Well, go take a shower. Tomorrow is the last day of school for the week since it will be Friday." she saw me hesitate. "Go."
I nodded but went straight into my room. I had printed out some articles I had found about Olivia and they were hidden under my mattress for my mother to not be worried about. She didn't need to know I was finding out about Olivia.
"Okay so here is the article on the day of Olivia's death." I murmured to myself. "This is the one two days after her death and this one is two months after her death." I went through the articles carefully, making sure I had them in the right order for each one was different.
Then a notification appeared on my computer. Instead of ignoring it I went over and checked it out. It was a blog sent to me by Jase. It was another blog about Olivia from the same person.
I clicked it and started to read.
So remember what I had said about Olivia before? Well I am saying more things about her. I just thought since I got a lot of views and likes on the last one that I should do another. So everyone knows about how Olivia was known to be a good, sweet, generous girl? Well maybe she isn't. I think maybe Olivia is some kind of drug dealer or something to cause the "black man in a mask" to just kill her. But like I had said before. She isn't dead. She probably is living with the black masked man, laughing as if it was the funniest joke in seeing everyone think she died. Well I don't think she did. So watch out Olivia. I will find you and everyone will find out you're a fake liar that everyone thought you weren't.
I seethed with anger. Why did this person think Olivia wasn't dead? Olvia is a sweet and caring person. Why would she be a drug dealer and make a joke out of her death?
I shook my head and sent the blog to Jessica. If it wasn't for Jase finding these blogs then I would've not known.
I remembered to call Jase and Jessica about the mall adventure. I decided to call Jessica first. She immediately answered on the first ring.
"Hello?"
"Jessica, It's me. Tracy." I said, holding the phone up to my ear.
"Oh." Jessica paused. "Hey, Tracy. What's up?"
"So I went to Littleton's mall today and I was gonna check it out but I wanted to invite all three of us to check it out together." I explained. "That mean's Jase is going to come."
There was silence before Jessica spoke, sounding both far away and close. "Okay. But you know I can't go to that mall, Tracy. There are just too many bad memories in that place and I don't think I can make it." she went quiet again.
"Come on, Jess." I said. "We have to find out the incident and what happened. We can't wait any longer." It was just silence.
"Fine." she answered quietly. "But I will not go into the building."
"That will be enough." I said. “Bye, Jessica.”
"Bye." Then Jessica hung up on me.
I sighed and decided to call Jase. He didn't immediately answer and hang up as Jessica did. It took at least five rings before Jase answered.
"Hey, Tracy." Jase said.
"Hey." I explained the whole thing at the mall. "So do you wanna come with me and Jessica?" I let silence inch between.
"Yes," Jase said finally. "Anything to find what happened to Olivia. But...Tracy?"
"Yes? What is it?" I asked.
He let out a sigh. "There was this new girl at school. She looked exactly like Olivia. Was it a coincidence?" I heard the little catch at the end of his voice.
"What?" I was startled. Certainly he wasn't hallucinating this girl, right? "Uh...she looked like Olivia?"
"Yes. It wasn't a coincidence. There hardly ever are any." Jase sounded like he was about to cry. His voice was about to show it.
"I'm sorry, Jase. Maybe I will see you at school tomorrow and you can show me." I said.
"Okay," Jase murmured. "Text me later? Damian keeps wanting to hang out with me. I want an excuse to not be with him." I heard someone talking in the background and then, "Oops. Sorry I got to go. Text me." Then he hung up.
I blinked rapidly before putting my phone down on my desk. Then I remembered I had to take a shower; my mother would scold me if I didn’t and would probably take my phone away.
I quickly jumped into the shower and let the warm water soak my back. Why did Jase and Jessica both act weird? Maybe they just didn’t feel comfortable with the topic of Olivia. It probably hurt the two of them.
I nodded to myself and began washing my hair.
