Chapter 4
On the first day of school, Saron explored the forest and found a very large rock. Every Sunday, she came to that rock and uncovered a small hole in front of it and placed an envelope inside, in which she had written a letter to her deceased mother. She would stay there for a while and meditate, than go back to normal school work at Hogwarts.
Her father would describe her as stubborn, subtlety sassy, protective of people close to her, and reluctant to share anything unnecessarily.
"Tell the story of a scar, whether a physical scar or an emotional one..."
She was six years old, tearing pages out of a blank book and folding the paper into tiny animals. In the other room, her father cries silently well her mother stares blankly at the wall. Nine and a half years old, reading a book intently with a blanket wrapped around her shoulders. She hears her name through the wall and looks up. She hears the voice of her mother. "...Saron must not know. She is old enough now to understand, but that does not mean she should have too." Her father chimes in, "How do you expect me too break the news to a girl that her mother will die in less than a year? She should at least have time so it is not so sudden. You were supposed to outlive me, not the other way around." She can hear her mother stand up and move to the window. "Sam... it's inevitable. Saron is more susceptible to emotion now than she will be when I am expected to pass. She will be able to handle it more when she is older."
Eleven years old, hiding in her room with her arms over her head. "NO! No! I won't believe it. You LIAR. Mother didn't die. This is a test. I won't give in!" She took a few deep breaths as her father started to talk. "Saron... I'm not lying and this isn't a test. Your mother has passed." Silence. Than, a scream of pure agony, followed by sobbing.
Later that year. Saron holds a book in her hands that her father just gave her. "Your mother told me to give this to you." He says quietly. Saron reads the cover. "The Teachings of Surak." She says out loud. It was the book about how to suppress emotions, written by the Vulcan who changed everything about their culture.
Age twelve, exactly a year after her mother's death. She is dressed in full black and stands in a graveyard in front of a headstone. She places a book of poetry down, one that her mother was quite fond of. As she leaves, her father tries to hug her but she moves swiftly away from him.
Age thirteen. She is sitting in the living room, having just finished meditating. Her father approched with a letter in his hand. "Saron? I...I should have given you this earlier, but with your mother and all...well, you were accepted to Hogwarts." He says timidly. Saron looks up, confused. "Hogwarts...?"
Later that year. "RAVENCLAW!'
