Chapter 1
I lived a happy, content life with my family. My owner, Lilly, groomed, fed, and walked me. I had everything I could ever want. I though life was forever, but I was wrong.
"Max, come here boy" Lilly called from up stairs, but there was something different about her voice, as if she was crying. I ran upstairs as fast as a could to Lilly's room. I was right she was indeed crying, I walked over to her and laid my head on her knee to assure her everything was all right, even though I didn't know why she was crying. "i'm sorry max" she said in between sobs, "you'll never see Katie again." Katie, No, she is my favorite human, except Lilly of course. ""She was killed in a car crash, a drunk guy hit Katie and her parents, her parents survived, but she wasn't so lucky" she said suddenly. I was sad, but at the same time I was happy that it wasn't Lilly who got killed. I didn't know dogs could cry, I didn't know if it was because I thought about not having Lilly by my side, but I felt something wet come out of my eye and role down my cheek. After that I protected Lilly at all costs, I slept with her, ate with her, and followed her everywhere she went, even in the car. One day in the car it started to rain, hard. Then came a clap of loud thunder, I laid my head on Lilly's lap as we stopped at a red light. I looked up and I saw a bright light coming right towards us, I lept up and got in front of Lilly to protect her. I felt a jolt of pain shoot through me before I heard anything, then it all went dark.
"NO" Lilly shouted in the vet's office a week after the crash, "HE'S NOT DEAD." I got stood up on the table in the vets office, and looked down and saw my lifeless body laying there. I lept off the table and walked over to Lilly and laid down beside her. "I'm, sorry, Max is dead Lilly" the vet said, and at that Lilly ran out of the room with me right behind her. She ran to the bathroom and started to cry, I jumped on to the counter and sat there, Lilly looked up in the mirror and saw me sitting there, then quickly turned to where I was sitting, but didn't see me. Then she looked back in the mirror and saw me, thinking was a trick of the mind she ignored me, but I was there with her. She looked in a mirror every chance she got, and I was there. i followed her forever, and ever, and ever...
