While Hermione was spending the summer at the Burrow with the Weasley family and Harry Potter, she attended the Quidditch World Cup. It was the year before her fourth year at Hogwarts, and she was excited about it. She attends this event along with Harry and the Weasley family (not including Molly) and bought some souvenirs from the people selling things like dancing shamrock hats and large green rosettes. While Hermione was out exploring the place with Harry and Ron, she met some friends like Seamus Finnigan and Dean Thomas. During the Quidditch World Cup Hermione sat with the others in the Top Box section. Hermione had met Dobby in the Top Box as well as the Malfoy family, whom she was not exactly happy to see. When the match was about to start, she had been reading the velvet-covered tasseled program and learned about some of the game info. For example, she learned there would be a display from the team mascots, something Mr. Weasley added to by saying it was worth a watch. When the Quidditch World Cup played out, Hermione saw the veelas that had been so powerful that almost everyone fell for them. Hermione on the other hand did not. Hermione had supported Ireland’s team and was excited when they had won. After the World Cup, however, something sinister happened. When the group was walking back to their tent, the Dark Mark had appeared in the sky, which made everyone fearful and confused. Mr. Weasley had told the others to run and that he would find them later, which only added to the fear. Hermione had been brave enough to stay calm though and had been trying to keep the others calm as well. When they had rejoined Mr. Weasley, they had gone home the next day.
