Chapter 4
Festival in Sri Lanka!
Hello Friends!
So today’s article is a bit different because I thought of writing an article about a festival that we celebrates in Sri Lanka in April! (This is the reason why I love April). This famous festival is called the “Sinhala and Tamil New Year” this festival is celebrated by Sinhalese and Tamils [ Hindu’s] in Sri Lanka. This happens when the sun moves from the house of Pisces to the house of Aries. It also marks the end of the harvest season and of spring. Every year on 13th of April we celebrate the day prior to Sinhala and Tamil new year. On 14th we celebrate the Sinhala and Tamil New Year!!! There are a lot of traditions some of them are:
1. The Transition Time
2. Preparation of food
3. Eating Food
4. Observing the full moon
5. Visiting relatives and neighboor’s etc.…
So if I tell how we prepare for the celebration, we cook food (Oil cakes, Rosette cookies, sweet-cake of jaggery and rice flour etc.…) We get new dresses, we paint our house and this is how we prepare for the new year! We keep New Year festivals! And we even celebrate this in our schools but unfortunately this time we can’t do that with Corona ): By the way there’s a lot we do in Sri Lanka for our new year [ We get school Hoilidays! ( The same way you get for Summer!) ]. Hope you enjoyed my article for this week!
