Chapter 10

Chapter 1
After saying goodbye to my friends, I follow the mass of students disembarking from the Hogwarts Express. We’re back in London at Kings Cross, the beginning of Christmas Break. The journey was uneventful, nothing fun happening. I climb off the train, looking for either my parents or Teddy. It’s pretty easy to find them in a sea of people, the blue or pink hair a dead-giveaway. “Alexia!” I hear someone shout. I smile and walk towards the direction of the voice, finding Remus and Tonks waiting for me. “Ready to go home?” she asks as Teddy joins us. I nod enthusiastically as does Teddy. Tonks takes my hand and Remus places an arm around Teddy. We disapparate, leaving the loud station and entering our quiet house.
“Go put your stuff away, supper’s almost ready,” Remus instructs before walking into the kitchen, following Tonks. Teddy and I put away our rucksacks, unpacking our belongings in our rooms. I walk back downstairs, humming to myself as I sit down at the kitchen island. Teddy joins me, sitting down on the stool next to me. Remus places a bowl on each placemat as Tonks uses magic to ladle soup into each bowl. Some hot soup, just what we need after a cold winter day. I sip on mine while Remus and Teddy talk about school. Tonks looks at me, probably wondering why I’m so quiet but I shrug. Remus turns his attention to me, beginning to ask questions about school. I answer each of them, not exactly with lengthy replies but with enough to satisfy him. I’m just happy to be home again.
Later that evening, after dinner, I sit in the living room, stretched out on the couch reading. Rose gave me this book just before break and I intend on finishing it before I get back. It’s about ancient lycanthropy and how past cultures dealt with it. Some strange ways, but I like the book anyway. Remus sits down in his chair and looks over at me. “Whatcha reading?” he asks, looking at the cover.
“Lycanthropy Through the Ancient Ages,” I answer, sitting up and handing him the book.
“Is it good?” he questions, reading the back cover.
“It’s okay, it’s very historical,” I reply, taking the book back. Remus asks where I got it from. I stay silent for a moment. “Um, Rose gave it to me.”
He frowns. “Does she know?”
I nod but reassure him that she won’t tell anyone. “I would’ve told you sooner but I had other things on my mind,” I add.
“Okay then. It’s time for bed,” Remus responds after a moment.
“But it’s Christmas break,” I complain, noticing it was nearly ten o’clock.
“No excuses,” he says, standing and picking me up. I whine but let him carry me, it being a while since I had the feeling. He carries me upstairs, stopping once to say goodnight to Tonks. After walking into my room he places me down on my bed and wishes me goodnight. I whisper goodnight back and bury myself under my covers, falling asleep peacefully.
A couple nights later, I’m sitting at the kitchen table finishing some crackers. Teddy is in his room, working on some homework. Or so he says. Remus and Tonks are in the sitting room, discussing stuff I don’t care about. Standing up, I notice a glimmer of something outside the window but I ignore it, thinking it was a cat or something walking by. Happens a lot in the city. I place my cup in the sink and begin washing it. The front door begins flexing slightly, someone pounding on it from the outside. “Uh. . .Tonks! Remus!” I yell out as the door continues moving. They rush into the kitchen, seeing the door they draw their wands.
“Get back, Alexia!” Remus instructs I move back, standing behind the two. I’m about to ask about Teddy but the door flies off its hinges, crashing into the wall. Three men with black masks walk through the doorway, wands in hand. They fire spells, jets of light hitting the walls. Tonks and Remus fight back, repelling their spells.
“Go to your room!” Tonks calls over her shoulder. She’s battling two of the intruders at the same time. I follow her order and run to the staircase, dodging jets of light.
As I sprint up the stairs two at a time I hear one of the men say, “Get the girl!” This motivates me even more. Looking back, Remus is blocking the stairs while Tonks is edging her way over to him. I briskly jog down to my room at the end of the hallway. Behind me, the largest intruder emerges into the hallway from climbing the stairs. I can’t even think about what this means with Tonks and Remus. I open my door as he fires spells.
“What’s. . .” Teddy steps out of his room. He gets hit in the chest by a spell and collapses in his doorway. I bite my lip to stop myself from cruising and close my door as the intruder hurries down the hallway. Scrambling to find my wand, I pull open the drawers in my desk. I grab my wand and wait for the door to open. A second later, it bangs open. I shout, “Protego!” as the man tries to stun me. The shield charm repels the Stunning Spell and hits the man. He flies back, hitting the wall and crashing down. I’m thrown back from my own charm and I hit the wall. My world goes black.
