Chapter 9
“Hey, y/n! Wait up!”
You turn around and scan the crowded hallway to find the person calling you. You notice Oliver Wood running towards you, waving for you to slow down. You quickly relocate yourself to the far side of the hallway and wait for Oliver to catch up. Once he arrives to where you’re standing, you allow him time to catch his breath.
“What’s up, Oliver?” You ask.
“So, we had a Quidditch match last night, yeah? Well, I was up late and I didn’t get to finish the Potions notes. Could I borrow yours?”
“Oh, sure!” You open your notebook and skim through the pages until you find the notes from the day before. You tear them out and hand them to Oliver.
“Thank you so much, darling!” He exclaims with a grateful smile, “see ya later!”
You wave goodbye as he darts down the hall. You then continue on to your next class, Herbology, the only class you have with Cedric this year. Taking note of the time, you dash to the greenhouse, arriving a few minutes early. Taking your seat next to Cedric’s empty one, you organize your things. You stop only when you feel a tiny kiss planted on your forehead. Your gaze follows Cedric as he sits beside you.
“Hello, Love. Been a long day, hasn’t it?” He says.
“The longest day ever!” You reply, “I had a Charms test today and I’m ninety-eight percent sure I failed.”
“Aw, c’mon now, you’re the smartest person in that class. I’m sure you did a wonderful job.”
“Mhm. I doubt it,” you pout.
Cedric pushes you jokingly. “Well, with that attitude I can see why!”
You giggle and stick your tongue out at him, making him burst in a fit of laughter.
“Mr. Diggory and Miss l/n,” the Professor scolds. She gives a warning look, telling you to be quiet as class will be starting shortly.
“My apologies, Professor,” Cedric says.
As the Professor turns her back to you to write on the chalkboard, you and Cedric share a look, both of you rolling your eyes in a joking manner. Class starts just a few minutes later, so unfortunately you can’t talk with Cedric for an entire hour. It does help that he’s right beside you though. Whenever he sees you getting stressed out or confused, all he has to do is hold his hand out and count to ten with his fingers. This helps your breathing steady and your mind focus. It works every time.
Walking out of the greenhouse, you stop by the side to wait for Cedric. You start thinking about your summer and your first kiss with him. You smile as the memory comes flooding in, not even noticing Oliver Wood’s frantic hand waving in your face.
“Hello?? Earth to y/n!”
“AH!” You shriek as you finally come back to reality, “Oliver, what in Merlin is wrong with you!”
Oliver chuckles, clearly amused by your response. “Just wanted to give you your notes back. No need to freak out.”
Growling, you take the paper from his hands. “Yeah yeah whatever. Just don’t ever do that again!”
He raises his hands in mock surrender. “As you wish, darling.” He laughs and pats you on the shoulder before walking away, leaving you rolling your eyes.
“What was that all about?” Cedric’s asks softly from behind.
You turn around with a confused facial expression. “What do you mean?”
“Why was he talking to you?”
“I gave him my Potions notes earlier. He didn’t have time to copy them down last night. He was just returning them, Ced.”
“Uh huh.” Cedric stuffs his hands in his pockets and turns his gaze to the ground.
“Wha-you don’t believe me?”
“Why’d he call you ‘darling’?” He asks, avoiding your question.
“How am I supposed to know?”
“Well, if he’s calling you that, there must be a reason.”
“Maybe that’s just the way he talks! Ever thought about that?”
Cedric huffs and walks away, clearly irritated. You throw your hands in the air, frustrated yourself. You head to the Common Room, fuming.
“Why on earth would he get mad at such a thing,” you mumble, rearranging the things on your desk, “it’s not a big deal!” You toss a binder full of parchment paper to the floor, causing all the loose ones to scatter everywhere. “Great,” you growl. As you stoop to pick them up, you hear a soft knock on the door. “Come in,” you call out.
The door opens and you turn to greet whomever it is. You furrow your brows in surprise when you see Oliver.
“Oliver, what are you doing here?”
“Um, so I heard about your fight with Cedric,” he says nervously.
“Oh,” you reply, not sure where he’s going with this.
“I came to apologize. I already explained to Cedric I wasn’t hitting on you and once I gave him the whole story, he understood. I shouldn’t have even given off an impression that I was flirting. I’m sorry. Will you possibly forgive me by going and fixing things with Cedric?”
You smile and nod. “Thanks, Oliver. Where is Ced?”
“He’s downstairs in the Common Room, waiting.”
“For me?”
“Well, of course for you, silly!”
You laugh and move forward to give Oliver a hug. “Guess I should go down there then, huh?”
“Yeah, probably. And I should probably get out of here before Professor Sprout notices.”
“Yeah, don’t know how you’d get out of that one.”
Oliver backs out of your room and gives you space to go downstairs first. You practically fly down the steps and almost stumble into the Common Room. Cedric comes up behind you and gives you a big hug, startling you.
“Oh, there you are!” You exclaim.
He laughs and nods his head to the side. You follow him all the way out of the Hufflepuff dorm to an empty room nearby. Once Cedric checks to make sure the both of you are alone, he takes your hands in his. You notice small tears forming behind his eyes. You open your mouth to ask if he’s okay, but he cuts you off.
“Y/n, I’m sorry. I got jealous because all I saw was a guy in his last year at Hogwarts trying to steal my girl. I know it sounds silly, and it is. I just get so protective over you because I want to keep you safe. I got mad for no reason, and I apologize. Could you forgive me?”
You smile, then immediately try to hide it. “Hm, I don’t know. That’s a tough one.”
Cedric’s face falls. “O-oh. I understand.”
“Ced, I’m joking! Of course I forgive you!”
His face turns a little red with embarrassment. “Okay, good. You had me scared for a second.”
Giggling, you embrace Cedric in a loving hug. He wraps his own arms around you, rubbing your back as well.
“May I kiss you, y/n?” He asks tentatively.
You smile greatly and immediately reply, “Of course you can!”
Cedric pulls away from the hug and takes your face in his hands. He then leans down and kisses you softly and deeply. Contrary to the summer kiss, you react immediately. Now that you both have at least one experience, it comes almost naturally. You continue kissing for a while, just enjoying every gentle spark. You get so lost in the moment, the both of you don’t even realize it’s past curfew!
Cedric withdraws from the kiss first, out of breath. He pulls you just a tad closer, admiring you the same way he did your first night at Hogwarts. Neither of you speak, allowing the silence of the moment to communicate for you. Once you realize, however, that the sky’s light evening hue changed drastically to a dark one, your eyes widen in horror.
“What’s the matter, y/n? Am I that bad of a kisser?” He jokes.
“No no, you’re a great kisser!” You hastily reply, “but, we’re gonna be in big trouble if Professor Sprout finds us out here after curfew.”
Cedric turns to look out the window behind him. “Merlin’s beard, it’s late!” He pivots back to you and laughs. “Guess we should go then, huh?” You ask.
“Mm yeah I guess so,” he says, reluctantly.
Cedric leads you back to the dorms, being careful not to make any noise. Once you’re safely in the Common Room, you share a relieved look. As you turn to make your way up the stairs, Cedric quickly gathers you in his arms and kisses you again, this time a bit more passionately. You’re stunned, but kiss him back. Once he lets go, you giggle.
“Couldn’t let you go without a goodnight kiss, now could I?” He explains.
You grin and respond a tad flirtatiously. “Admit it, you can’t resist me.”
“Oh, is that right?”
“Mhm.”
Cedric smiles and looks at you adoringly. He kisses the tip of your nose and your forehead before letting you go upstairs.
“G’night, my love,” he says softly.
“Night, darling,” you reply, which makes him grin from ear to ear.
You quietly sneak into your personal dormitory, ensuring you haven’t woken anyone up. As you settle under the warm covers, you think of how crazy this day has been. You and Cedric had your first fight, yet settled it within 24 hours! Not to mention the stealing of several kisses. Your mind and body drift off to sleep, allowing you to reminisce the wonderful feeling of being with the love of your life.
You turn around and scan the crowded hallway to find the person calling you. You notice Oliver Wood running towards you, waving for you to slow down.
