Chapter 4
“Aw, cmon y/n! It’ll be fun!”
Cedric’s plea rings out from behind you. You turn around, now walking backward, and roll your eyes playfully.
“I already told you, Ced. I have studying to do. Midterms are on Friday, and I can’t fail.”
“Pleeeeease?” Cedric whines. “I don’t wanna have to go to Hogsmede on my own.”
“You won’t be alone. Just ask some of the guys in your dorm to go with you.”
“But I don’t want to go with them. They’ll honestly just try to go flirt with some of the girls or something like that.”
“And that’s not fun?” You ask sarcastically.
Cedric picks up on your sarcasm and throws it right back at you. “Oh yeah it’s loads of fun! But only when you’re there watching.”
“Oh, is that so?”
“Absolutely,” He deadpans.
You both stop walking and burst out laughing. You end up sitting on the soft ground, desperately trying to contain yourselves. Once you both settle down, Cedric looks at you with a serious face.
“Look, you don’t have to go if you don’t want to. I know midterms are important to you and I understand if you wanna stay.”
You can clearly hear the disappointment in his voice, but you try to ignore it. Failing to do so, you sigh and stand up.
“You okay?” Cedric asks. “I didn’t mean to upset you.”
“Gosh dang it Ced, you’re gonna be responsible if I fail the midterm,” You say without explanation, your back turned to him.
“What? Y/n, I’m confused.”
You turn around with your arms crossed and your best angry face. “I’m coming to Hogsmede with you,” You reply, faking frustration.
Cedric quickly catches on and smirks. “See? Knew you’d come around. You just can’t resist me.”
“Oh really?”
“Yep. Now, go get changed. It’s not the best idea to go around Hogsmede in school robes.” Cedric jumps up, gesturing across the courtyard to the castle.
You groan, still playing the act. “Alright, fine. I’ll go get changed.”
Cedric laughs and holds his arm out for you. You take it, remembering fondly how he did that when you first met. He’s been doing it since then as well. You allow him to walk you through the castle, leading you towards the Hufflepuff dorms. Once you arrive, Cedric says the password and then moves inside. He releases your arm when you get to the common room.
“Don’t take too long,” He jokes, plopping himself on the sun yellow couch.
“I’ll take however long I want,” You reply, earning another smirk and chuckle from him.
You hurry up the stairs on the left to the girls’ dorms and enter your own. You quickly get changed into some casual clothes, and then head back downstairs to the common room.
“K, Ced, I’m back.”
Cedric peers up at you, smiles, and stands up. “Alright I’m ready. Do you have a preference of where you want to go first?”
“Mm no not really. Anywhere is fine,” you reply, walking towards the door.
“So The Three Broomsticks is okay?”
“Yeah, sure!”
You both talk as you head towards Hogsmede, engaging in a conversation similar to the ones you regularly have. Your conversations with Cedric are always full of harmless joking, knowing glances, and even some friendly flirting. Multiple students had suggested in the past that you two always acted like a couple. You both denied it constantly, but if you’re honest with yourself, you really wish you were. You love Cedric. You admire his courage, honesty, smarts, and loyalty. It’s no surprise to you that he was placed in Hufflepuff. You knew from the beginning that’s where he belonged. You don’t love him just for his looks—although he is pretty handsome. You love him for who he is and how he treats others. You just wish that once you didn’t have to deny your feelings and pass it off as a joke. But, does he feel the same way?
