Chapter 13
A joyous shout of over 40 seventh year students permeates the dining hall. You instinctively cover your ears, but remain calm. Once the noise softens, you release your hands from your ears and rest them on your lap. Your attention is diverted to Headmaster Dumbledore as he signals for everyone to quiet down.
“I’m sure you all do not wish to listen to me speak for much longer, however, I must give the proper recognition to those who deserve it before you proceed to leave this school,” Dumbledore pauses, glancing around the room to determine if he has everyone’s attention. Then, he continues, “In all the years you have been here, you have been taught many things about our world. From how to recognize a harmless magical creature to, through the sufficient support needed, how to fight and conquer the most dangerous kinds of magic in our realm. You must use this knowledge wisely. Do not use them for simply your own gain or you may find yourself in a position similar to that of the late Lord Voldemort. Instead, take advantage of the opportunities that may present themselves to you in order to help others on their journey as well. The reason for this is that our choices, not simply our abilities, determine who we are. Take this with you as you start the rest of your life outside these classrooms. I wish you all the best of life, now go, fulfill your story!”
Every student rises from their seat and moves towards the back of the room. The doors to both the dining hall and the castle gate are wide open, allowing for more to exit at a time. The flood that is the graduating class of Hogwarts rushes to the courtyard in a joyous way. You too rush outside, twirling around in your robes, transformed to fit the occasion. Upon detecting Cedric’s cheerful laugh, you run up to him and clutch his arm.
“Why, I don’t think I’ve seen you this happy since Christmas!” He proclaims.
“I don’t see an issue with that,” you reply flirtatiously.
“I didn’t say I did either, my dear,” he responds, one arm gently hugging your waist and the other raised to your face, barely resting his hand in your hair. He bends down and slowly yet affectionately kisses you. The same feelings from fifth year, many dates after,, and last Christmas come flooding in, resulting in your beet-red face and loss for words as you share this moment with Cedric. This is definitely going to be a night to remember.
