Chapter 12
You carefully and quietly sneak down the stairs with a bulky bag in your hand. When you arrive at the bottom of the stairs, you suppress a squeal as you receive Cedric’s second favorite greeting—hugs from behind.
“Cedric Amos Diggory, you don’t understand the whole ‘be quiet’ thing, do you?” You scold playfully.
“You’re absolutely right, my love,” he answers, tenderly swinging you back and forth.
Giggling, you try to get him to stop for a second. “Ced, I have to put this down or it’s going to fall.”
“Alright, alright give it to me,” he replies sarcastically. You hand the bag to him, and he sets it down next to another present on the sofa. He motions for you to sit next to him. Once you get settled, he hands a tiny box-shaped gift to you.
You carefully open the gift, making sure not to make too much noise. The colorful paper tears easily, revealing a small, velvet, black case. You glance at Cedric quizzically but proceed to open the case. You gasp softly when you see a modest golden locket in the shape of a badger—the Hufflepuff symbol. You open the locket, unveiling a miniature purple and gray butterfly. Cedric gently taps the butterfly with his wand, causing it to flap its wings and spin in the locket.
“Aw, Ced its lovely! Thank you!”
“Of course! And anytime you want it to do that just tap the wings with your wand,” he explains.
“Will do,” you reply sweetly, “now, it’s your turn.” You grab the bulky bag and hand it to Cedric.
He delicately pulls the tissue paper out and sets it on the floor. He then takes out an extremely soft sweater with a yellow base and solid black trim. The words “Best Hufflepuff Seeker of all Time” are expertly sown in.
Cedric gapes at you in shock. “Y/n, did you make this?”
“Yep! I thought you might like to wear it around the grounds,” you say gratefully.
He laughs, carefully folds the sweater, and places it back in the bag. Then, he sets the bag down on the floor along with your locket. He puts his arm around you, pulling you close to him. You snuggle next to him, curled up in his arms by the fire. Cedric plants a loving kiss on your forehead, moves to your nose, and ends on your mouth. You blush deeply, also returning the kiss. Radiant beams of sunlight stream through the windows, bringing with them a strange coolness of winter. Snuggling closer, your fingers interlock with his, connecting your hearts as well.
“I love you, y/n,” Cedric whispers, sneaking in another deep kiss.
“I love you too, Ced,” you reply in between kisses, “merry Christmas.”
Nestled by the cozy fire in the early morning light, you and Cedric take in each other’s inexplicable affection, simply unaware of any other matters.
