Hello There
Chapter 1
“Hurry up, y/n or you’ll miss the train!”
“I’m coming..” You grab your bag off the ground and begrudgingly place it on the trolley. You gently push the cart, trying desperately to avoid any contact with others. Your eyes dart around the station, searching for any sign of trouble. You hear your parents calling your name, begging you to move faster. Sighing, you push the cart a tad faster in order to catch up.
“Alright y/n we’re here. Go ahead.” Your father points at the wall in between platforms 9 and 10. You take a deep breath and close your eyes tight. Then, you run as fast as you can towards the wall. Within seconds you’re standing on a platform beside a huge black train. You open your eyes slowly, as if to test whether this is all a dream.
Breathing a sigh of relief, you look back at your muggle parents. They stand with your father’s arm over his wife’s shoulder and proud smiles on their tired faces. You give them your best smile and hug them both.
“Goodbye mum. Bye dad.” You whisper.
“Goodbye dearest. Have fun at school, okay? Make some friends?” Your mother replies.
“I’ll do my best.” You release them from your embrace and start to straighten your shoulders, giving the impression that you were as confident as a Gryffindor. You then walk to the train with your belongings, handing the suitcases and your cat to an employee.
You step carefully onto the train’s steps and shuffle through the interior to find an empty spot. You pass several boxes with four to five people already in them. Panic starts to rise in your throat and your hand begins to shake. Suddenly, a warm hand gently touches your shoulder. You jump slightly, and turn to see who it is. A tall boy with dark brown hair about your age stands just behind you.
“Hey hey, it’s okay. I’m not gonna hurt you I promise. I just noticed you looked a little lost and wondered if you wanted to come sit with me?”
“O-oh. Um, thank you?”
The boy chuckles a little, but not in a mean way. “So, is that a yes?”
Your face turns red. “Yeah.”
The boy smiles and holds out his arm for you to take. When you look at him puzzled, he explains. “The train is a bit crowded and I wouldn’t want you to get lost.”
“Oh.” You hesitantly slide your arm into his, and nod for him to lead the way. He helps you dodge other students carelessly running around, and checks occasionally to make sure you’re still there. After a few minutes of dodging and ducking various spells, he stops in front of a box and opens the door. He gently lets go of your arm and motions for you to go inside. You nod your thanks and quickly enter. You take a seat and immediately set your small backpack beside you. You look up at the boy, who stopped to close the glass door, and watch him as he takes his own seat.
“I’m Cedric.” He says. “I’m a first year. What’s your name?”
“Y/n. I’m also a first year.”
“Nice to meet you y/n. What house do you want to be in?”
“Oh, I don’t know. I’d like to be in Hufflepuff, but Ravenclaw wouldn’t be so bad either.”
“I think you’d do well in Hufflepuff! My father was a ‘Puff. I’d like to be one too. Are there any other witches or wizards in your family?”
“My parents are muggles, but my aunt and uncle came to Hogwarts.”
“Ah. Well, there’s no shame in that. Just focus on being the best witch you can be. Don’t worry about what others think.”
“That’s a bit hard for me.” You admit softly, subconsciously rubbing your arm.
Cedric smiles sympathetically and gently reaches to take your hand. “I understand.”
You smile back, suddenly realizing you weren’t feeling nervous at all! You feel completely comfortable with Cedric. This is new for you. You hope this feeling won’t go away. Ever.
