2. Diagon alley
Chapter 2
Luna ate her lunch with her father quietly. “What’s wrong, my darling?” Xenophilous asked. “I’m thinking about Mum,” Luna said. “I am too,” Xenophilous said. “Dad?” What is it, my dear?” “Well, I’d like to go to Diagon Alley today,” Luna said. “Alright, we can apparate,” Xenophilous said. “Now,” Luna commanded. “Alright, hold your nargles!” Xenophilous said, and laughed. Luna gripped her father’s arm tightly, and they vanished. Luna felt as though she was being dragged through a pipe. They emerged on the cobblestone streets of Diagon Alley. “I can’t buy you your equipment myself,” said Xenophilous, “let’s go and use the money that your mother left you.” Pandora had left Luna five thousand galleons when she died. Pandora was a hoarder. She only spent money if she absolutely had to. This was all of the money that she had saved over the years. They walked briskly into Gringotts Wizarding Bank, and Xenophilous said, “Vault 437, please.” “Yes, where is Miss Luna Lovegood’s key?” asked the little goblin sitting on a high chair. “Right… here,” Xenophilous said, after a bit of rummaging. The goblin brushed bits of sharpening of his enormous sapphire. “Griphook!” the goblin called. Another goblin came out from a door behind the large desk. “Vault 437,” the goblin commanded. “Alright, Gornuck,” Griphook said, “come this way.” “I’m a little bit afraid of, um, carriages, could I just send Luna down?” Xenophilous asked. “Yes, of course,” Griphook said, “come with me, Miss Lovegood.” Luna walked away, following Griphook. She hopped into the carriage, and at full speed it hurtled off. They stopped at a large door. Luna inserted the key into the lock, and turned. Stacks upon stacks of gold galleons were lying there. “Wow,” Luna said. “Hurry up, girl,” Griphook commanded. Luna scooped up about 200 silver coins and 100 gold coins and emptied them into her money bag. The cart trundled off again, and in no time, she could see daylight. She walked out of the doors with her father, and he said, “let’s see your list.” Luna took it out, and this is what it read :

“Goodness me, Luna, that’ll be a right fortune!” Xenophilous exclaimed. Luna shook her money bag. “I’ll be OK,” she said. “Where first?” Xenophilous asked. “Um, Ollivander’s,” Luna said. “OK, I’ll wait here.” Xenophilous said, pointing at a shop. Luna took a deep breath and walked inside. “Hello, Miss Lovegood,” said a shadowy figure from the depths of the shop. “Good morning, Mr Ollivander,” Luna said. “I remember both Pandora and Xenophilous’s first wands,” Ollivander said. “Well, could I buy mine?” Luna asked. “Of course, dear, pick a box,” Ollivander commanded. Luna picked up a box, took out the wand, and waved it. She felt a warmth through her fingertips. “Goodness me! Here is your wand, Miss Lovegood.” Ollivander said, “thirteen inches, firm, unicorn hair core and black walnut wood. You have made history, Miss Lovegood. You are the second person to choose the right wand first. Seven galleons please.” “Here you go,” Luna said, and left the shop, clutching her wand box. “Look, dad,” Luna said, and she showed him. “Lovely. Where next?” It would be boring to list every shop, so we’ll rejoin Luna and Xenophilous at Flourish and Blotts. “Only the books left,” Xenophilous said. “There’s fourteen,” Luna said. They walked into Flourish and Blotts and Luna barged to the front. She grabbed the books and elbowed her way to the counter! Luna threw the money at the assistant, and barged out of the shop, ignoring Gildeory Lockhart! “Good girl, you did what I told you to do!” Xenophilous praised. Luna stroked her new Pygmy Puff. “That was wrong,” Luna said, “I need to apologise.” “NO, LUNA!” Xenophilous yelled. “Fine, dad,” Luna screamed, quietly. They apparated away.
