1. Luna
Chapter 1
Luna woke up to the normal sounds of the twittering birds and the rushing river. She sighed. ‘I wish mother was still with us,’ she thought. “Good morning, my girl,” Luna’s father, Xenophilous, said, stroking her dirty blonde locks. “Good morning father,” Luna said in her dreamy tone, “I miss mother so.” “I know, Luna, but you’ve grown up. You’re eleven. You should receive your Hogwarts letter soon,” Xenophilous said. “It’s only been two years, dad, exactly two years,” Luna sighed. The anniversary of her mother’s death was the thing that she had been dreading all week. “I’m going to get dressed,” Luna said. “I’ll leave you here, my dear, I feel just the way you do,” Xenophilous said. Luna wanted to scream, “NO YOU DON’T, YOU WEREN’T HER DAUGHTER! YOU WERE HER HUSBAND!” but she held back her urge. Luna got out of bed, and pulled on her sunflower casual dress. This was just like her mother’s wedding dress. She pulled on some walking shoes, and went out for an early morning walk. She walked all of the way to The Burrow, the Weasley’s house, and saw Ginny. “Hi,” Luna said shyly. “Hey, Luna! I just got my letter!” Ginny said excitedly, waving her letter in the air. “That’s good, Ginny! I’d better go, I haven’t had any breakfast,” Luna said quickly. “Oh, bye Luna,” Ginny said, a little sadly. Luna felt bad, and scurried away. When she arrived at her house, she saw a beautiful tawny owl on the window. “Dad, I think my Hogwarts letter is here!” she shouted. “Goodness, dear, it’s early!” Xenophilous said, crashing down the rickety steps. “Ginny already has hers!” Luna yelled. “Good for her, Luna,” Xenophilous said. Luna took the parchment from the owl and read it aloud.
Dear Miss Luna Lovegood
You have been accepted into Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. We await your owl. The Hogwarts Express leaves from King’s Cross Station, Platform 9 3/4 on September the 1st. You will find your list of items enclosed.
Yours Sincerely
Vice Principal, M. McGonagall
“Will we go to Diagon Alley tomorrow?” Xenophilous asked. “That sounds good. May I go and practise Quidditch with the Weasleys?” Luna asked. “First, send this owl back to Hogwarts,” Xenophilous said. “OK,” Luna said. This is what the letter read :
Dear Professor McGonagall,
I will be at Hogwarts on September 1st.
Yours,
Miss Luna Lovegood
“That’ll do, my girl,” Xenophilous said. He gave the letter to the owl and it flew away. Luna ran down the hill to fetch her Cleansweep eleven. She ran all the way to the Weasley’s house, thinking, ‘will dad send me free editions of The Quibbler?’ She knocked on the door merrily, and it was opened by plump, red haired Mrs Weasley. “Good morning, Molly,” Luna said, “do you think that I could practise Quidditch with Ginny?” “Of course, dear, have some toast,” Mrs Weasley said. Luna went inside and sat down on a spare chair, beside Ginny. “Hello, Ginny,” Luna said, in an extra dreamy tone, “could I practise Quidditch with you?” “Yes. Can Ron, Fred, George, Percy, Charlie and Bill play too?” Ginny said. “Don’t forget me!” A weird voice. Luna didn’t recognise it. “I’m Harry, Harry Potter,” Harry said. “Oh hello, Harry. Where do you live?” Luna asked. “Number four, Privet Drive, Little Whinging, Surrey,” Harry replied, “that’s with Uncle Vernon, Aunt Petunia and Dudley. I’d much rather be in Godric’s Hollow with my mum and dad.” Luna had heard the story of The Boy Who Lived, but had never met him. Xenophilous had said, “Harry Potter’s parents were killed by You Know Who. He survived and came out with a lightning scar on his forehead,” when Luna had asked who Harry Potter was. “Mum, this toast is so good,” Ron said. “Thank you, Ronny!” Mrs Weasley, brightly. “Can we go play-“quidditch now?” Fred began, and George finished. “Yes, you may boys,” Mrs Weasley said. “How many of us is that?” Ginny asked. “Well, there’s me, you, Ron, Fred, George, Charlie and Harry. That’s seven,” Luna said. “Brilliant, we’ve got a whole team,” Charlie said. Everyone followed Charlie to the door to get the brooms. “Wow, Harry, you’ve got a Nimbus 2000!” Luna exclaimed. “I’ll be riding it for the first game, but you can for the next Luna,” Harry said. “Thanks Harry,” Luna replied. Everyone collected their brooms and went up the hill to the Quidditch Arena. “I’ll chase,” Ginny said. “Can we be beaters?” Fred and George asked. “Yes,” said Harry and Luna together. “Can I be seeker?” Harry asked. “OK,” Charlie said, “I’ll be chaser.” “I’ll chase too,” Luna said. “I’ll keep,” Ron said. “Who will we play?” Ginny asked. “Us!” Mrs Weasley came hurtling up the hill. “I’m chaser, Arthur’s beater, Bill’s seeker, Percy’s beater, Xenophilous is keeper, this is Alicia Spinnet, she is chaser for Gryffindor and she lives in Ottery St. Catchpole, and Angelina also plays for Gryffindor, chaser, and lives just round the corner,” Molly said. “OK, I’m ref,” a girl with bushy brown hair and overlarge teeth said. On seeing Luna she said, “I’m Hermione Granger.” It would be boring to list the WHOLE match so I’ll just say that Team Luna Lovegood won! “Goodbye, Weasleys we must get home,” Xenophilous said. “Goodbye!” Ginny called as the Lovegood’s walked slowly away.
