The Party
Chapter 2
Bodies all around were pushing up against each other, pulsating to the music. A lot of people had masks on, so I couldn't be sure of who they were, but I did see Logan dressed in his police officer costume across the room. He had a cup pf punch in his hand, and was laughing at something the person he was talking to had said. I moved around a few of the partiers that were in my way to see who the other person was and- CATHY!
Why in the hell was Logan talking to her!? Fury coursed through me, rushing through my veins until every part of my body was touched by the anger. Lights began bursting all over the room, tiny sparks and pieces of glass raining down on us. Small screams escaped a few of the girls because of the surprise of it all. Then it all stopped. I looked up with everyone else, but I didn't see anything. House must have blown a fuse.
Rolling my eyes, I made my way through the crowd easily and slipped out the front door to stand on the porch. I don't know what I was doing out here, I still wanted to confront Logan about being so friendly with Cathy- because I hadn't missed the hand he had had on her waist, or that look in his eyes. But maybe I just needed to clear my head, relax a little before I did something I'd regret.
A little girl and some friends were passing by the house, out on their Trick-or-Treat run. The girl was rubbing her eyes and had her head down. I knew she was probably crying. Then the other kids laughed and walked away, leaving her there. She sat down on the sidewalk, tossing her pillowcase full of candy down beside her.
I walked up next to her and asked, "Are you alright?"
"They're being mean to me," she whined.
Oh, for Christ's sake. I mean, I know she's a little kid, and I didn't know the whole story, but really? They were being mean? What did someone her age know about someone being mean?
"What happened?" I inquired.
"They said my angel costume looks stupid and that people were only giving me candy out of pity."
Ouch! "Well they don't know anything. I have seen plenty of angel costumes in my day, and yours is by far the best."
"Really?" She looked up at me with a hopeful smile. "Thanks, lady. But what are you supposed to be?"
I glanced down at my outfit, the way everyone does when someone mentions something they're wearing. "You'll understand when you're older."
"I've heard that before," she sighed.
I couldn't help but laugh a little.
"Any way, lady, I gotta go, my mom's waiting for me at the end of the street. Have fun with your night."
"You too," I called to her as she hurried off. Weird little girl. Why had she stopped to cry here when she could have just gone to her mom? I shrugged as I stood up and went back to the party.
Glancing around, i wondered how I had gotten in here so fast. I felt like I had just stood up and decided to come back inside and then I was in the living room. Had I been so distracted thinking about that little girl that I didn't notice I was walking and had arrived? I shook my head, putting those thoughts in the back of my mind, though I would probably never re-visit them. Tonight was Halloween and I was determined to have some fun.
As the night continued, I had a weird feeling, along with an annoyed one. I'd been dancing for what felt like hours, and yet, when I went into the kitchen, I didn't feel the least bit thirsty or exhausted. And then there was the usual thing: no one was paying attention to me. I don't want to sound like a brat, but really? No one?
And what the hell was up with Logan's costume? We were supposed to dress as a couple this year. Santa and his helper. This was all starting to get infuriating! Nobody was complimenting, or even looking at my well made outfit, and Logan had backed out of Santa without telling me. I tried locating him, always finding myself in the next room to start searching faster than I thought I moved, but he wasn't anywhere. Maybe he was avoiding me. Oh was he going to pay if he was.
With a few hours gone, I gave up walking and just stood in one of the corners in the living room, looking around in case he passed by. That's when he found me. I didn't recognize him, but he was amazingly hot. And he was the only boy to pay any attention to me in a while, so I wasn't going to tell him to go away. Maybe seeing me with him would make Logan jealous.
He had dark, medium length hair, like was popular among the skaters at our school. But this kid was no skater, hew as an artist. Though he was wearing a pirate costume, which was amazingly put together, like he had just walked off of a movie set, I could tell. His costume was complete with a sword and rolled up piece of aged looking paper I took to be a map. He didn't have a parrot or an eye patch, which suited me fine; a patch would have just covered one of his pretty blue eyes.
"Hi there, Captain," I greeted, suing my best sexy voice.
"Good evening, milady," he replied, touching the tip of his hat. "Why is such a beauty alone in the corner with no en around admiring her?"
Wasn't that cute? "Your guess is as mine, no one has taken note of me all night."
"That seems hard to believe. But must count myself lucky, I should. If it weren't for all these boys ignoring such a radiance, I would have to fight for thy fair maiden's attention."
Okay, did he just step out of a romance novel? For any guy out there wondering what to say to a girl to make her think you're sweet, take some notes from this guy. I felt myself blush. He bowed, taking my hand in his and kissing the top of it. He looked up at me from beneath his lashes. "The name's Ian Grey."
"Brooksia Vider."
"Such a lovely name. Though it compares not to your beauty."
I blushed again and he smiled.
"Why haven't I seen you around before?" I asked.
He knew I meant around town, not just at the party. "My family just moved here a few weeks ago. And I must say, I'm disappointed I haven't seen you before tonight. We'll definitely have to see more of each other in the future."
"I've got no problem with seeing more of you." I touched his chest, putting my meaning into motion.
Ian smiled again. That's when I saw a light over his shoulder, growing steadily bigger. Then I was swallowed into darkness, surrounded by shadows.
