Chapter 8
Moaning Myrtle

Myrtle

Myrtle Elizabeth Warren, commonly known as Moaning Myrtle, after her death, was a Muggle born student, that started attending. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from 1940 – 1943. She was killed in 1943 by the Serpent of Slytherin, on the second floor, girl's bathroom. Myrtle was bullied and Harassed by Olive Hornby, causing her to run off into the girl's bathroom and cry. On June 13, 1943, age 14, Myrtle was crying in the bathroom, after being, once again, teased about her glasses. She was crying in one of the stalls when she heard someone in the bathroom. According to Myrtle, ‘They said something funny. A different language, I think it must have been’. We now know it was Parseltongue. Myrtle then was going to unlock her stall door, to yell at the person in the bathroom, to go away, but then she opened the door, and all she remembers is a pair of yellow eyes.

Later that day, as told by Myrtle, that Olive Hornby found Myrtles body in the bathroom. After the professors then came to dispose of the body, making Myrtle, Tom Riddle’s first Victim. The voice Myrtle heard in the bathroom, was Tom Riddle, opening the Chamber of Secrets, letting the Basilisk out. That’s how Myrtle died.

After Myrtles death, she haunted Olive Hornby, even after Olive left Hogwarts, because of age. Myrtle haunted Olive for bulling her when Myrtle was alive. Myrtle reminded Olive that it was her fault she was dead and how horrible she was. Myrtle would also stalk Olive wherever she went. She even went to the extreme and crashed Olive’s brother’s wedding. After that Olive went to Ministry of Magic and reported Myrtle for haunting her. She was then sent back to Hogwarts, where she haunted the bathroom, where she died.
