Can He Hear Me?
Chapter 7
I followed them from behind as they climbed up the stairs. When we reached the top, Crystal turned around and whispered, “Specs? Are you here?”
Yup. Ready to surprise another human.
“Good. Um, Luke, did you hear him?” She said quietly.
“Uh, nope.”
That’s because I don’t want him to hear me yet. I am only speaking to you right now.
“Oh. Okay, then come in.” We entered the room, and I got ready to talk to another human.
-
“You can talk now, Specs,” Crystal said, sitting on her bed. Luke sat next to her.
What would you like me to say? “Hello. I assume you are the boy Crystal has been talking about all morning?”
Her face turned bright red. “Just greet him.” She couldn’t see me, so she glowered at the floor.
Okay, then.
Hello, Luke. Nice to meet you.
He froze, in the middle of scratching his nose. His wide eyes darted around the room, settling on Crystal.
Crystal looked up at his shocked face. She smiled, saying, “Believe me now?”
“Whoa,” was all he said.
“Good to know it’s not only me.” Crystal said happily.
“This is crazy. Can you speak again, please? And where are you?” He looked around the room.
Here.
I flew up to him and perched on his nose.
He yelped and jumped back. Crystal laughed and said, “He’s afraid of bugs. That’s why he didn’t believe me before. He thought I was trying to scare him.”
“Um, nice to meet you too,” Luke said, straightening up and looking at me. I flew over to the nightstand and sat on it. I expect you came here to ask me something and not for a freak show?
“Yeah,” Luke said. “We actually do need a subject for our science project.”
