Seventy Six Year Old Brainiac
Chapter 4
The next few hours were very, very boring. Except for when I occasionally zipped out of the room to sting that mean father of Crystal’s, I was extremely bored. When Crystal finally arrived, I flew near her just in case the man dared to do anything. He glanced at her, sneering.
“Did you send some weird thing after me, girl? Something keeps biting me.”
“I have no idea what you are talking about. I am going to my room to work on a project.” She said it so calmly even I believed her.
She went up to her room, shut the door, and marched to the bathroom at once. I flew quickly to meet her there.
There was anger on her face. “Specs, why the heck are you stinging him? How do you even sting him?” She demanded, searching the room for me.
He hurt you. He deserves it, I told her. She found me perched on the windowsill, and she sat on the toilet seat with her head in her hands.
Busy day at school? I thought. She snorted. “What do you know about school?”
Quite a bit, actually, I thought. Though I am small, I am actually seventy six in human years.
“Seventy six!?” She exclaimed, her eyes popping out.
Yes. If you would like me to help you with your schoolwork, I am here.
She shook her head. “Thanks, but I’m good at all this stuff. It’s not school issues...more like friend problems.”
Might this have to do with the Luke fellow we discussed earlier? I asked, showing her an image of a mischievous grin.
“Oh, shut up! No, it doesn’t have to do with him. He’s actually my best friend. The thing is, this girl named Sylvia said she doesn’t want to be friends anymore with a dork like me, and she’s one of the most popular girls in my grade. We’ve been friends for two whole years, and now that she’s turned on me, all of her friends are turning on me too. The only friends I have now are Luke and a girl in my History class,” she finished halfheartedly.
I am sorry. But are you not counting me among your friends? Or do bugs not qualify as worthy for you humans?
“Of course, Specs! Oh, and speaking of which, I’ve told Luke about you. He said he’s not sure if he believes me, but he’s coming to this house in two hours.”
