Chapter 8
Remus Lupin
Remus John Lupin was born on the 10th of March in 1960. He was the only son of a wizard Lyall Lupin and a muggle Hope Howell. When he was five years old, he was attacked by werewolf Fenrir Greyback as the revenge to his father, who worked in the Ministry of Magic. He's life changed forever, he wasn't able to have friends, because his parents were scared that he might bite them. After his 11th birthday, Albus Dumbledore came to visit them uninvited and told them, that Remus can come to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was a shy boy but he was really happy to finally meet some new people. He was sorted into Gryffindor and quickly became friends with James Potter and Sirius Black, who liked his kindness. Soon Peter Pettigrew joined their group and they became inseparable.
Remus went to the Shrieking Shack every month, to transform into a werewolf. The villagers of Hogsmeade heard his screams and thought, that the place was haunted. He kept his transformations a secret to his friends because he was scared that they might desert him if they knew the truth. But sooner or later his friends figure it out and they decided to help him. In their 5th year, they were able to turn into animals, to keep Remus company. James turned into a stag, Sirius into a black dog and Peter into a rat. Remus' transformations became more fun, when surrounded by his friends, he was able to keep his mind under control. The four boys wrote the Marauder's map, who showed everyone and where they were. Sadly, it got into Filch's hands and he took it away.
The boys often made fun of a Slytherin, Severus Snape, so he followed them around to see what they are up to. One time, Sirius told him about the Whomping Willow passage, he thought that he'll get scared or injured. But Snape decided to find it and he almost got killed. James saved his life, but he saw Remus at the end of the passage so the secret was revealed. Dumbledore then told Severus not to tell it to anyone. Remus never really bullied Snape, but he was later sorry, that he didn't stop his friends from doing it. He was also a Prefect in school.
During the first Wizarding War, Remus joined the Order of the Phoenix with his friends. Sirius thought that he was spying for the other side, so Lupin wasn't included in protecting James and Lily. These two wanted Sirius to be their secret keeper but he suggested Pettigrew, so that it wouldn't be too obvious. When Remus found out that James and Lily were dead, he was extremely sad and a day after, Sirius was in Azkaban for killing Peter. Remus lost all of his friends who meant the world to him and that was one of the most traumatic experiences in his life.
In Harry's 3rd year of Hogwarts, Lupin became the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher and he found out the truth about Sirius and Peter. Later, in the 2nd Wizarding War, he again joined the Order of the Phoenix. He watched how his friend Sirius was killed by Bellatrix Lestrange and he was devastated but he knew that he had to save Harry. He fell in love with Nymphadora Tonks but he didn't want to confess his feelings because he knew that he wasn't able to have a family, due to his werewolf transformations.
But in a while, Nymphadora had the same feelings for him and they got married. They were a happy couple and soon Tonks was pregnant. They had a boy called Edward Lupin.
The battle of Hogwarts came and Remus wanted Tonks to stay at home with Edward but she wanted to help. Sadly, the couple was killed, probably with the Killing Curse, which leaves no visible marks on the body. Remus Lupin was awarded with Order of Merlin, first class, he was the first werewolf ever to receive that award. He was an amazing wizard and we’ll always miss him.
