Godric Gryffindor was an English wizard and was born in a small village located in the West Country of England called Godric Hollow. As well as being one of the most brilliant wizards of that time, he was also described as “the best duellist of his time”. When Hogwarts was first created, Godric was actually very good friends with Salazar Slytherin but became enemies later in life.

When choosing people for the Gryffindor house, Godric praised courage, determination, and strength over all the other qualities, so he wanted to pick students based on those qualities. Despite being close the Salazar, he in favor of allowing Muggle-borns into the school, which made the friendship between them fell apart. When deciding on how students would be sorted after they were gone, Godric Gryffindor took off his own hat which would become The Sorting Hat.
