Rowena Ravenclaw was a Scottich witch who was born sometime in the 10th century. She was from the glens of Scotland, and the sorting house described Rowena’s birthplace as, “Fair Ravenclaw from glen.” Once Hogwarts was created by Rowena and the other 4 founders, it has been said that Rowena was the one that came up with the school name and the floor plan. When choosing students for Ravenclaw, Rowena wanted students according to intelligence and wisdom. Because of this, the Ravenclaw house values sharp mind, wisdom, creativity, and cleverness.

Once Rowena’s daughter, Helena, graduated from Hogwarts, Helena grew jealous of her mother’s fame and ran off Albania. After Rowena’s daughter ran off, she fell extremely ill and spent the rest of her life trying to reconnect with her daughter. Shortly after Rowena lost hope of reconnecting with her daughter, she died of a ‘broken heart.’
