Professor Emmerich Prince
Chapter 4
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PROFESSOR EMMERICH PRINCE
Our Transfiguration Professor, Emmerich Sabik Prince, is quite a character! He was born on January 9th, 1975 in Kentucky. If you did not know, his surname, Prince, is well-known. It is as old as some of the most famous names like the Malfoys and the Yaxleys. But, centuries have past and if our Prince does not have children, the infamous Prince line will end, as there have only been one male per generation. Quite an interesting family tree and quite complicated, if you ask me!
Prince always knew he had magic. When he was five years old, he snuck into his mother's potion cabinet to continue his experiments that he could not do without her ingredients. She caught him and out of shock, he vanished the entire silver cauldron!
Before moving to Hogwarts, he spent his childhood in America, with his purebred family and his younger sister, who was eight years young his junior. Prince was an interesting child; he spent his time reading magical theories and experimenting with Potions (My, that made some unusual and unfortunate circumstances!), along with games that motivated the mind to strategize like chess and puzzles.
His favorite memory as a child was when he got his first cat. She showed up on his family's property with five little kittens. She was feral and would not get near Prince or his family until a few weeks later. Although the kittens all found homes, Sophie stayed with Prince for a long time. Because of Sophie, he got two other cats. One of his pets is the cat that you see roaming the campus all day long and the other stays in Prince's very organized and clean office (I am surprised that it is so clean, considering his pet is living in there). If you hear meowing near the Transfiguration office, do not be scared that Prince was transfigured into a cat. It is just his pet!
While he was at Hogwarts he was sorted into Ravenclaw. I asked him why he thought that and he just gave me an are-you-kidding-me look and said, "it should be obvious". Of course, Professor! Of course it is.
Although he did not really want to share, I tried to pry into his romantic life, because we all want to know! His first date and first kiss was when he was fifteen with a sixteen year old girl, in a year above him. He would not share anymore. He also told me that his most embarrassing story was when he transfigured his first girlfriends hands into feet. Haha whoops! Unfortunately, that did not end up well for him. I wonder if this is the same girl! He also quickly mentioned about his most recent love life. He had a breakup between the recently departed Ancient Runes Professor Genesis Starfight but it is still hard for him.
He thinks that his logical and systematic mind set is the reasons that he sometimes struggles with a relationship and having compassion. Even though he can be cold on the outside, just like his limited color clothing style, I think Professor Prince he is very warm on the inside!
Prince happily graduated Hogwarts in 1992, the year that the Chamber of Secrets was opened. He had wonderful grades! He had earned nine OWLS in his fifth year at Hogwarts and continued to study CoMC, Charms, Transfiguration, Potions, and Herbology on the NEWT level. He got an outstanding in everything except CoMC, where he got an E.
Despite his current job being our Transfiguration Professor, he was always into wandlore. When he was younger, he loved teaching but he really wanted to make wands. He actually owned a wand shop with his best friend, Crys, but he had to give up his ownership after a fight that he had. Soon, he was offered the position of Transfiguration Professor at Hogwarts but he still dabbles in the art when he gets the chance, especially in untraditional wandlore.
Currently, Professor lives at Hogwarts but during the summer, he goes to his manner in Northern Scotland! He loves experimenting with spells and potions in his free time and keeping his treasured heirlooms safe, like the enchanted mirror from his mother and self-filling goblets that he has for when guests visit his house.
But, as much as he loves wandlore and experimenting, he loves working here at HIH. He found this website via the "Muggle Book of Faces" and just adores teaching. He loves to spend time with similar students and Professors that share the same passion that he does. He spends most of his time grading and writing lessons, in fact. He spends hours brainstorming, using a lot of his favorite ink, until he has the perfect lesson for everyone. The work is definitely shown. When he is not working, he loves researching in the library or getting some sweets from the kitchen.
Looking back, Prince knew that he would never want to change his childhood. Even if he had a time turner (I would not be surprised if he did have one), he would not do a thing to his life line. "It formed me into the man I am today", he said.
Professor Prince told us that in Year Three, we can look forward to working with animate to animate transformations. Mostly plants and animals but it is very exciting! I know I cannot wait!
HARRY POTTER
We were soon onto the topic of Harry Potter. He was introduced to this lovely series by a teacher. The country was in hatred of this book because of the "horrible" ideas it talked about (wizards and sorcery) and they were burning them everywhere so Prince thought that he should definitely read it. He always had a love for Ravenclaws but he also has a love for Hufflepuffs! His favorite character is Severus Snape and his favorite book is Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince. Hm, I wonder why? His favorite movie is the original film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. I mean, it was the beginning. It started the adventure. As much as he would like to hide it, he definately cried during the series. He told me "possibly" but I could see it in his eyes. He probably cried for days after Snape died! I also learned that if Prince would go into the Harry Potter series, he would save Dobby, kill Umbridge, and talk about magical theories with Albus, Minerva, and Serverus. Spoken like a true Ravenclaw… oh wait!
WHAT YOU DO NOT KNOW
Professor has very little nicknames. The only one he has is Emm and only very special people get the honor of calling him this. When asked what his greatest fear is, he replied "I'm not sure". I want to see him up against a boggart. In his opinion, his intellect is his best feature but he has heard in hallways and in classrooms that his beard best represents him. I agree completely. His wand is an unyielding, 11.5 inch, pine wand with the core of a hippogriff tail. He has others, ones that he probably made, but this is his favorite. I asked him who is his hero and he remarked in the best possible way: "I don't have a hero that I elevate above others. I believe we all have to opportunity to be a "hero", but no one is all light or all dark." Amen, Prince! If he could invent an ice cream flavor, he would make something with chocolate. If he were an animal he would be a fox but he would never become an animagus. If he would teach another class, he would maybe teach Potions. Good luck fighting Professor Baty for that one. If he was isolated on an island, he would bring his wand, a book, and a bottle of spiced rum. Nobody at Hogwarts knows that he is fond of rasberries. Professor's patronus is a dragonfly. His favorite movie is Last Samurai. His favorite TV show is Doctor Who and his favorite book is, again, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. His favorite place to shop is anywhere with a bargain. He must have a hard time on Black Friday! His favorite food is Pumpkin pasties. He takes them very seriously. He has been to four countries. He does not have a favorite song and is open to suggestions. His perfect date involves a pretty lady and chocolate.
We finished the interview and Prince said he learned many things about himself! I am glad, Professor. We all are!
QUOTES!
“He is a true Ravenclaw - smart and efficient. He also has a fair idea of right and wrong, and that impresses me.”-Novellus Batman, DADA PA
