Chapter 9
Acromantula
Acromantula are eight-eyed,eight legged spiders "the size of cart horses".
Acromantula are capable of speaking in human language.Acromantula venom,stored inside their fangs,is very valuable(100 Galleons a pint!),considering that it is nearly impossible to collect.They are social,and live in large colonies. These colonies usually have a leader,which is well-respected by all others.
Like most muggle spiders,female Acromantulas are usually larger than the male,and can lay up to 100 white beach-ball-sized eggs.
The Basilisk is known to be the deadly enemy of Acromantulas,and they fear it so much that they can't even speak it's name,rather like the wizard's view of Lord Voldemort.

Habitat and Diet
Acromantulas live in dense,thick jungles or forested areas.They are carnivores,and prefer to eat large pray,including humans.İf a colony member died,the others eat the corpse.İt is still unknown if the colony members eating the corpse of a dead Acromantula is a funeral ritual,or merely a way to aqquire food.
