“Tell me again why I’m listening to you,” I said, ducking under a branch.
“You’ll see,” Felix grinned, dodging a vine. “By the way, where are Ruby and Sam? I didn’t see them on my way out.” I tried to sound casual instead of sounding worried about them.
“Oh, you know how much they love to put dead rats and stuff in Finch’s office. I need to know how they disable those booby traps.” Felix responded.
“Why, do you plan on going in there too?” I asked. Mr. Finch, the evil principal, kept dozens of booby traps in front of his office that only he could disable- but he didn’t know Sam was a tech expert. Ruby and Sam had been spending so much time together- at night and at day- that I was starting to feel jealous.
“Course not. I don’t like breaking the rules- just happens sometimes accidentally. I just want to know how the magic and technology combine together to- oh! We’re here!” Felix announced. We were at a clearing- but there was something in the center. A book?
I walked up to it, Felix staying behind and looking nervous.
Picking it up, I fingered the cover. It wasn’t any random book- though I would have accepted any book, I’m the biggest bookworm alive- it was an atlas.
It was thick, colorful, and beautiful. Only Felix would think of getting me this.
I opened the pages to see colorful pictures and illustrations of both the normal world and the magical world- this book had information I had been looking for since I first learned about magic.
“It’s for you,” Felix said behind me.
