SARMALE
Chapter 1
1) CABBAGE ROLLS (SARMALE)
Considered to be the Romanian national dish we found ourselves eating a lot of these cabbage rolls. I think they came from Turkey to begin with but I’m not sure. Basically, it is cabbage that is slow cooked and stuffed with either rice, vegetables, chicken or pork. It seems they eat a lot of pork in Romania so my grandfather Snape would have been shocked with the amount of “non-kosher” food that I ate and still eat. Of course having been brought up a witch and not Jewish it has never mattered to me about pork.
