The Nitty Gritty Details (Part 2) - Groups and Clubs
Chapter 3
Now for part 2 of the nitty-gritty details! This is going to cover Groups and Clubs and how to join and make them!
Groups and Clubs: Groups and clubs are a great way to have fun with groups of people!
Groups and clubs are exactly as they sound. They have a group of people in them doing whatever the group or roleplay is made for. (Definition of Roleplay later in this chapter, so don't worry! I didn't know what it meant at first either.) Some Groups are private meaning you send a request to join and they can either accept you or deny you, and others are public, meaning anyone can join. Both are great, so don't worry about choosing between them. Usually, groups or roleplay with more members means they are active, but that is not always the case. To get to them you can go under the "Hogwarts" tab and click "Groups & Clubs" or you can go to the link I provided below, along with step-by-step directions on how to join and leave groups.
Groups & Clubs: https://www.hogwartsishere.com/groups/
How to join a group:
1. When you go to that link, you will see three options. Create, Serch, or More. If you look at your screen you will see that there are popular groups recommended for you. (Those will give you many notifications during the day because of the many members, but you can join any you want.)
2. Find a group you want to join (By serving or looking through the popular groups)
3. Click on that group and you will see a message. It will either say: "This group is public, so you can just click here to join!" or "This group is private. Your request to join this group must be approved by an admin before you can see it. Click here to send your request to join."
4. Click on the blue text to either send your request or join the group.
How to leave a group:
1. Click on the group you want to leave.
2. On the right-hand side, there will be a button that says "Leave This Group" click that.
How to turn off or on Notifications for a group:
1. In the same place as the leave button, there will be a grey button that has your notification preference on it. It will either say "No, don't send me notifications" or "Yes, send me notifications"
2. Click the drop-down arrow to choose the other option.
3. Click the "Update Notifications Preferences" button and it will save your choice JUST TO THAT GROUP.
And now, what I promised, a definition of roleplay. I expect some of you know what this is, but I thought I'd share it with the people who were as lost as I was!
The technical definition: To act out or perform the part of a person or character, for example as a technique in training or psychotherapy.
Me breaking it down: Basically, it is playing pretend, but online, with 1 or more people. You pick a character to play (it can be yourself) and someone else (or multiple people) pick their characters, OCs. You then type back in forth on a "Roleplay" group or on someone's wall, or in an owl. I have an example for anyone who needs it below.
Example Roleplay:
Elizabeth Black - Lily was walking down the street when she heard something ruffle behind her. She pulled out her wand and stuffed her other hand in her pocket before advancing towards the object with caution.
John Smith - James was hiding behind the bushes when he accidentally lost his footing. Luckily Lily didn't see him, but she turned anyway and pulled out her wand. James stood as still as he could and jumped out at Lily when she was not but 2 feet away.
