Book Recommendations (Not on HiH) (Entertainment)
Chapter 6
During this hard year and quarantine, it is important to stay reading to keep yourself entertained during the pandemic. Here in this article, I have collected a diverse collection of books that I highly recommend to all readers (I have asked people to recommend these, so it’s not just from me). Also, please keep in mind these books are not on HiH.
The 7 ½ Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton
Genre: Mystery
This book is a complex mystery that will surprise you at every turn. Combining aspects of Groundhog Day, Downton Abbey, and a classic whodunit mystery, it creates a book like no other. It follows the main character who has to find the killer of Evelyn Hardcastle. The catch? He has to solve it while waking up each day in another body. If that wasn’t enough, each time he wakes up, he repeats the same day over again. Given a time limit of eight days, he has to solve a murder; a murder that will happen later that day. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire book, and is a wonderfully spooky and interesting story for anyone who loves mysteries.
Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender
Genre: Coming of Age, LGBTQ+
This book is a heartwarming story that will make you feel a whole lot of emotions. It follows Felix as he struggles to find his identity in a world that isn’t always welcoming. He also goes through troubles with friends, boys, and his family. This book is a wonderful story of friendship, romance, and identity. It will resonate with a lot of people, and is a coming of age story that will stick with you forever.
They Both Die At The End by Adam Silvera
Genre: Dystopia, LGBTQ+
This book is a heartbreaking story about Mateo and Rufus, who discover that they only have one day left to live and they spend it together. When they get the notice from a high tech AI that they are going to die, they find each other through an app called Last Day and they meet up. They Both Die At The End is an awesome young adult book about living and dying. It also features a gay Puerto-Rican main character and a bisexual Cuban main character, so it has a lot of representation of diverse characters. It's an LGBTQ+ story and is very surprising and sad. Get ready for an emotional rollercoaster if you read this book.
The Darkest Minds by Alexander Bracken
Genre: Sci-fi
The Darkest Minds is set in a world where all children are either killed by a disease or they survive but have powers like mind control or telekinesis. This story follows a girl abandoned by her parents as she discovers her powers and is taken away by the government. This is a truly epic dystopian novel and I loved it. It is a fully-released series, so don’t worry, you won’t have to wait to read the next book!
This is How You Lose the Time War by by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone
Genre: Sci-fi, Romance
How to Lose The Time War is about two beings, Red and Blue, who are fighting on opposite sides of a war. Through careful ways, they manage to exchange letters while they fight the war. They both can rewrite time to their liking and are both agents of their sides. They are equal in every way. This book is written in beautiful letters and is a complex but exciting read that will keep you captivated at every turn of the page. I highly recommend this book.
Scythe by Neal Shusterman
Genre: Dystopia
Scythe is a brilliantly written dystopian novel that will keep you interested throughout the entire read. Scythe is set in a futuristic version of our world where pain and death have been eradicated. The book follows Citra and Rowan while they are unwillingly put through training to become Scythes. Scythes are people who are employed to murder people in order to control the population. Citra and Rowan have to be trained as killers, while also dealing with the politics of the Scythedom. As romance between the two starts to grow, tension grows as well. And eventually they find out: only one of them can become a Scythe. And the other must die.
That’s all of the recommendations for today, I hoped you all enjoyed!!
