Chapter 3: Ollivander'S Wand Shop

Chapter 4

Maya listened to the goblin try to
talk over the howling wind, and nodded along with what he was saying, even
though she could only catch a word here and there. When the cart finally
stopped moving, they were inside of a tunnel, and Jazqex motioned her off
happily. She stepped onto the dirt floor and moved to the side, allowing her
new friend to get off as well. He walked as tall as he could, given his size,
and stopped in front of the wall. Maya saw that there were numbers engraved
into the wall, 436 to be exact. She opened her notebook and quickly wrote down
the numbers as Jazqex pulled out the key and stuck it into a depression in the
wall.

The wall moved loudly and
sluggishly, as if it hadn’t been opened in years. Maya wrote down that the wall
was the door to a vault of some kind, before looking up and seeing what was
inside. A large pile of gold coins lay in front of her, Jazqex standing to the
side as though he had accomplished something of great importance. Maya bowed to
him, and grabbed three gold coins, attempting to give them to him. “Oh, there’s
no need for that, Ms. Savton. Your father helped me get even more money than
that.” He motioned towards the vault and shrugged nonchalantly, though the
smile on his face told her that he was really happy. “I just work here to pass
the time now, really.”

Maya nodded and put some of the
coins into her pockets and turned towards the goblin once more. Bending down,
she gave him a small peck on the cheek, then walked over to the cart again.
“Oh!! Uh… Th- That’s all you need, Ms. Savton?” The poor goblin’s cheeks were
red as a tomato, but he still tried to keep his composure. Maya nodded, and
climbed back into the cart, sitting and looking at Jazqex with that knowing
smile on her face. “O-Okay, just let me close the vault. Give me a second
here…” Jazqex closed the vault as quickly as possible, then hurried back to the
cart. After handing Maya her key, he quickly started to go back up to the
beginning of the tracks.

Maya waved goodbye to her new
friend as she walked towards the exit. Happily skipping out of Gringotts Bank,
she almost forgot of her mission, before she saw a family pass her, the
children weighed down with bags of clothes and such. 'Oh yeah, I have to… get a
wand first. Where’s that?' Maya looked around for a minute, before remembering
that Jazqex had told her to go to Ollivander’s shop. She walked around Diagon
Alley for a few minutes before finding herself in front of a shop with a sign
that read ‘Ollivander’s Wand Shop’. She opened the door and immediately recognized
the room as the same one that she had fallen into earlier.

The two blonde people were gone,
but the old man was still there, fixing some of the boxes on the shelves and
scattered around. Maya walked up to the counter and rapped her knuckles against
the top of the desk. The man almost fell from his precarious perch on a ladder,
then turned and smiled once he saw her. “Why hello, aren’t you the girl who
fell in through my fireplace?” Maya nodded, watching as the man’s once nervous
eyes regained a small amount of light. “I only ever knew one family to ever use
this shop as their entrance to Diagon Alley… Do you, by any chance, know of a
family with the surname of Savton?”

Maya nodded, her long black hair
bobbing, and handed him the envelope. He glanced at the name, then gasped and
looked back up at her. “My, my, my! Young little Maya, it’s great to see you
again!! I remember the last time you came around, with your mother. Oh, you
looked so scared of me. But, you always seemed a tad nervous around everyone,
really. Oh, you must be looking for a wand, aren’t you?” Maya nodded once,
looking at the old talkative man curiously. “Okay, you must find a wand that
fits you, yes you must!” The man continued muttering to himself as he searched
through some of the boxes in his store. Maya simply wrote in her notebook as
she waited for him to give her a box.
