“Are
you sure that this girl is the one, sir?” Professor McGonagall asked Dumbledore
worriedly. The old man simply nodded, and continued to write the address on the
envelope. “Yes, I’m sure. You’ve seen it yourself, the girl has amazing talents
that no other human has. Of course she is the one.” The woman still appeared to
be skeptical, but didn’t argue it any further. Once the bearded man was done
writing the address down, he stood slowly, picking up the envelope and glancing
at it once more before looking at the woman next to him. “Would you like to accompany
me to the owlery, Professor McGonagall?”

The woman, who seemed to be in deep
thought, jumped slightly, then shook her head. “Oh, no, Professor Dumbledore, I’m
afraid I can’t. I have to go class now.” The old man smiled and nodded. They walked
outside of his office together, and then bid each other goodbye. After the
woman had rounded the corner, Dumbledore walked to the owlery in silence,
sometimes nodding at students who said hello to him as they walked to their
classes. Once at the owlery, he took a deep breath and held out his right arm.
A large owl with brown and white feathers landed there, and looked at him with
its big grey eyes. He smiled at it, and attached the letter to its leg. “Now,
be careful with this letter. It is of the utmost importance that it reaches its
destination without damage, okay?” The owl blinked once, and took off, flapping
its wings quickly to gain more height. “I hope that letter reaches you safely,
Ms. Savton.”

A loud sound awoke the sleeping
girl, making her bolt upwards violently, eyes wide open and panting slightly.
She looked around quickly, before realizing that something had hit the door of
the barn that she was sleeping in. The horse in the stall next to her shifted,
and she stood, brushing the bits of hay and dirt off of her clothes. Maybe one of the cows was left outside,
she thought, walking up to the door quickly. She slowly dragged the door open,
and was surprised to see an owl flutter in and land on the wagon. She scanned
the field in front of her, making sure that no other animal wanted inside, then
closed the door and turned towards the owl. Pursing her lips, she walked
forward slowly, making sure that the owl wouldn’t attack her. She saw something
tied to the owl’s leg, and her eyes widened as she untied it and saw that it
was a letter. In big lettering, the address read:

  The
girl gasped almost inaudibly as her mind searched for anyone who might know
that she lived here, but no one came to mind. She looked back up at the large
owl, which was looking at her almost… expectantly. She frowned, then glanced
from the owl to the huge doors, then back again. She stood up straight and
walked over to the door, still looking at the envelope. Who could have sent
this?

And why?

  She
opened the doors again, and waved once as the owl flew away. Then, the girl ran
over to her stall, her long and unkept black hair flying behind her. Sitting
down, she tucked some extra hair behind one ear and opened the envelope as
carefully as she could, not wanting to harm the letter inside. After reading
over the contents a few times, she smiled widely, and stood slowly, grabbing an
old leather-bound notebook and a pen. She fixed her black shirt and blue jeans
quickly, then put on her black wool jacket and walked out into the moonlight. She
didn’t care how much it cost her, she would find her way to the place called
Hogwarts and maybe, just maybe, finally find a home.
