Niamh the Fairy
Chapter 1
Niamh is a harmless magical creature. She was one of the fairies that lived in the Forbidden Forest. Unlike Pod, who was injured she decided to live along-side me when I was young. Perhaps only 5 at the time and living in the tree named Arber.
Fairies and Pixies can often be mistaken for the same creature but you really need to know the difference between the two. I quite liked Niamh she was funny and had a bit of spunk, but then I was brought up with Snape.
When understanding Fairies, you need to know that they are small human-like creatures with wings and can fly. They possess a small amount of magic but it isn’t a great deal. Their wings are used in potions but taking their wings does not kill them. I describe it as shaving them. Something horrible but sometimes necessary. I try not to use thing with fairy wings in just as a point of preference, therefore beautification potions and girding potions.
Fairies are said to be vain creatures and mostly this is true as they constantly brush and clean their wings and hair although I think many humans too are vain creatures as we like to dress in nice clothes, brush our hair wash our bodies and some (I speak for my husband) decorate themselves with tattoos and the like. This too could be seen as a form of vanity could it not?
Muggles have a somewhat warped view on fairies. Hopefully one day they will understand. There is an organisation (in fact several but we will speak of the main one) WHIFF, which is Witches Holistic Institute for Friends of Fairies. It aims to preserve fairies in their natural habitats and helps them and in 1987 man-aged to get them stopped from being used at Hogwarts. (Info from Charlie as I had not yet started).
Anyway, Niamh was very difficult to get along with when I first knew her but like any creature, she finally grew to accept me and bonded with me. Changing from a distant and almost aloof character to a gracious accepting and relatively friendly personality. She had the most impressive wings of a turquoise colour that made me want to have wings of my own.
