Chapter 1
Do you really know what a Niffler is?

Most think of them as cute and cuddly but I can assure you that if they were at Hogwarts, they would be but into Slytherin. This isn’t because they are nasty creatures but simply because they are sneaky and cunning creatures. We were given one by Bill after it got injured whilst burrowing in the tunnels of Gringotts and it has been with us ever since.

The British Ministry of Magic classify them as beasts with a triple X rating. This means that a “competent wizard should cope” being a dragonologist I’m sure Charlie can cope. These creatures are generally native to the British Isles, are fluffy, black and long-snouted. Almost like a very big mole or maybe a platypus. This burrowing creature has a strong interest in anything glittery or shiny, which is why they are often kept by the goblins to look for treasure and store objects in a pouch at the front of their stomach. Though the Niffler is gentle and even affectionate, it can be destructive to belongings and should not really be kept in a house, however we don’t abide by these rules and as it was injured there was not much of a problem.

The injury that poor Pod obtained was fairly substantial and meant that his back right leg will never be the same it also means that the pads on the front feet are somewhat raw and have to be either covered in mittens or rubbed in cream. There is also a nasty scar on his nose where is will forever be marked. The fur has grown back nicely though and his eyes are as bright and shiny as they should be.

It was the first creature that we ever actually named and as good parents we decided to let the children name it. So, it ended up with the name “Pod”. I assume because of the pouch but I’m still unsure. It took quite a long time for Pod to get used to us and his new surroundings but nowadays Pod is part of the family and is quite happy to run around searching for lost items. He may only have 3 legs but still gets around very well.
