Chapter 1
Ok so I write a fair bit about the men in my life. The ones I didn’t marry the one I did. When I think about it, I have been spoilt really. As I child I used to receive a rose on Valentines day. This was (I think) from my Uncle. But there are a number of people that it could have come from. We’ll call them potential suspects.
By Valentine’s day 1993 I had my first boyfriend. For once I knew who these had come from and knew to whom I wanted to give them. By 1995 a familiar rose reappeared on my bed. Was it fate or a dream? The rose continued to be on my bed… ’96 …
In 1997 I started dating George but for some reason the rose continued to appear on my bed… 1998 and there it was. It was as if this rose was a part of me and perhaps even trying to tell me something. Its petals would fade the colours would change. We understood each other. When my uncle passed away, I thought that perhaps this tradition would be lost but for some reason it has carried on.
The love and caring that I felt during my childhood was passed on because when my daughter Sevie turned 5 a rose identical to mine turned up on her bed. When Delphi turned 5 she too received a rose. I hope it impacts them the way it impacted me.
When I started dating Charlie, I think it is fair to say that the roses left me. We married in 2004 and I suppose many will say that we moved on to a new and different stage of our lives. Since being together we have lived in various countries, had children of our own and children that weren’t. We will continue to go through good and bad time because that, in truth is what a relationship is.
