The sunlight shone through the window and in a puddle on Cathy's bedroom door. "Let her heal him..." she mumbled groggily, causing the family cat, Dino, gaze at her curiously. Dino was a grumpy old cat with a heck of a temper, and not afraid to attack if need be. It was her way or the highway.

Suddenly Cathy jolted awake and shouted, "You cruel monsters!" Dino hissed fiercely, and leaped of the bed, landing gracefully. She crawled under the dresser, and went back to sleep in her "secret hiding spot." Cathy quickly clambered out of bed and began to dress, Dino snarling at her the duration of the time. "Oh, shut up," Cathy said.

Dino continued to snarl as she covered her head with her gray paws; she wasn't exactly celebrating because her precious sleep time had been postponed. Stepping carefully down the steep staircase, Cathy couldn't smell the usual aroma of her mother cooking breakfast. Oh, just fantastic. Breakfast in the car.

At the bottom of the stairs, Mrs. Barnes was trying to lug a large suitcase out the front door. Mrs. Barnes was a stout woman, with wild ginger hair and emerald green eyes to match. She had been of Irish inheritance, but fell in love with and married an American man. Mr. Barnes had been an average man with slick dirty blonde hair along with unique silvery gray eyes. He was a kind man, and reminded everyone in the neighborhood of Mr. Feeny from "Boy Meets World." It was a tragic day when he was killed guarding his students in a school shooting.

Cathy was a strict reminder that Mr. Barnes wasn't completely gone. She had his hair and her mother's beautiful, shimmering eyes. Her voice could be considered normal, except the occasional word cracking out in an Irish brouge.

"Need a little help there, Merida?" Cathy commented. She and Mrs. Barnes had made a game out of which Disney princesses they looked most like.

"Savor your freedom, Rapunzel. I've got this taken care of."

  "You sure, Elenor*?"

  "Bring it on, Gothel!"

They gazed seriously into each other's eyes for a moment, and then they bursted out laughing. Cathy finished her descent down the stairs, and, after at least twenty minutes, they loaded the last suitcase into the back of their truck. "There. Now we can finally get the heck out of here!" Mrs. Barnes jovially exclaimed. She and Cathy exchanged a high-five; sometimes it seemed as though they were best friends instead of mother and daughter. They clambered into the truck and quickly sped away from the house.

Soon a sign passed by behind them that read:

NOW LEAVING NORTH CAROLINA. DON'T FORGET TO COME BACK SOON!

*Elenor is Merida's mother in the Disney Pixar movie "Brave"

*Please tell me how this is if you like it. I'll even accept comments saying if it wasn't good, because a writer can't get better without knowing what they did wrong! :)
