Lesson Two: Accessing Your Power

Chapter 1

Wow! The second lesson was very exciting and we learned about flight charms and the source of our magic! So a child of a witch and a wizard can be a squib and children of muggles can have magical ability? That's very interesting. I went in the dorm after the class and I started trying what the Professor taught us. I grabbed my wand and started to feel the glowing ball of energy and visualize the glowing light or my power flowing from the center and flowing through my arm, my hand, my fingers and the wand. Suddenly, there was an owl that came by the window as I was doing it. I recognized it because of its white fur and amber eyes, it was Aether! Aether is Dad's owl and well Aether is my pet as well of course. I quickly opened the window and smiled as Aether delivered a letter. I petted Aether and get the letter. It was a letter from my Dad congratulating me for enrolling at Hogwarts! Dad also told me to study well and reminded me to owl him if I miss him. I wonder when will Mom's and other family members' owl come here?

Well, I played with Aether a little and wrote a letter to reply to Dad then Aether flew out of the window. Okay! Time to get back to the lesson! I concentrated and tried to feel and visualize my power flowing through my body to the wand. I failed three times already but it suddenly worked on my 4th try and they were sparks coming out of my wand!!! Now onto the Flight Charms! I grabbed my Quintessential Magic: An Introduction to Charms textbook quickly and opened it to Chapter 12 where flight charms where written. So I tried the first one which is the "Hover Charm".

This charm allows the caster to move the object up and down but due to the reason that there were more efficient charms, it does not have much use. The incantation is "Levioso" and the way to pronounce it is "Lev-ee-O-so". Emphasizing the "O" on the incantation. The wand movement is "Inward Spiral then Up". I practiced the incantation first. The incantation was quite easy and also the wand movement but it took many tries for me to hover a bracelet.

Next! The Rocket Charm!
Its incantation is "Alarte Ascendare" and the pronunciation is "A-lar-tay a-SEN-day-ray". The wand-movement is a quick swish at the end. When I first read the incantation before reading how to pronounce it, I said "A-lar-te a-sen-da-re" but now I know how to pronounce it after reading the pronunciation. I focused and tried to do the Rocket Charm. The bracelet I put in front of me was still not moving so I meditated first to focus more. I grabbed my wand and focused at my target. I spoke the incantation with the wand-movement and suddenly the bracelet was up in the air then it went back down after a few seconds.

So up next is the Floating Charm! The incantation of this charm is "Fluito" and the pronunciation is "Flew-EE-toe". I practiced the incantation first and it was very easy to remember because the incantation is short. We should be mindful of the parts of the incantation which needed to be emphasized. I took my wand and pointed it on my bracelet. "Flew-EE-toe!!!" Oh no it didn't work because I forgot about the wand-movement! I looked at the flight charms and found out that the wand-movement for this charm is "Jab and Upward Flick". This charm can target distant object rather than requiring physical contact. It cannot be directed to move any other way besides up and down. I did it immediately and now with the wand movement added, it worked! The quill on my dresser floated!

Last but definitely not the least is the Levitating Charm!

One of my favorite spells that my Dad told me about! Its incantation is "Wingardium Leviosa" and the pronunciation is "Wing-GAR-dee-um Levi-O-sa". We need to emphasize GAR and O. The wand movement is called "Swish and Flick". Hermione told me that this one was quite easy. I practiced the charm many times before trying it out. This Levitation Charm is the most closest to true flight in the Wizarding World. The book says that this is very reliable and well-known. It allows the caster to
control not only the vertical movement of an object but its movement
back and forth or side to side. Height is also less of a restriction,
though levitating or maintaining levitation on something very far away
can be difficult. The charm even allows the caster to lift objects normally too
heavy for them to lift themselves, though this also requires some effort. This charm though cannot levitate humans. It fails to work on us humans. So now that I've read everything about it, let's go try it! My Mom told me I had levitated small things before unconsciously and I think this might be one of the spells that i unconsciously did. I took off one of my rings and put it before me. It worked the first time I tried it!

The lesson was very fun to review and practice! I shall owl my family that I know Flight Charms now!
