Why Merlin Was Sorted into Slytherin (Informative)
Chapter 3
Why Merlin Was Sorted into Slytherin
Merlin was born in the Middle Ages and used the court of King Arthur. It was an indisputable image by magicians of different colours, specializing in charms. He was an opponent of Arthur's central half-sister, Morgan le Fay, the dark witch also known as Morgana. Merlin believed that wizards should help Muggles and live together peacefully, so he created the Order of Merlin, an organization that promoted the rights of muggles by ensuring that laws were made prohibiting using magic against Muggles. Before and after his death, the Merlin Order became an award for magicians and witches who -at their own risk- contributed to the betterment of the magical society. During his lifetime, Merlin demonstrated his extraordinary abilities in spells, both in using them and in creating new ones. At Hogwarts, Merlin was sorted into the Slytherin House. So, why was Merlin sorted in Slytherin?
Slytherin House traditionally brings together Hogwarts students with intelligence, ambition, a strong instinct for self-preservation, and ingenuity. Salazar Slytherin valued these qualities, especially when combined with "some contempt for the rules". Slytherin himself appreciated the purebred background of the students, but this may not always have been used as a criterion for their classification in the House he created. As Sorting Hat said, "Slytherin will help you on your way to greatness." Indeed, Merlin had a brilliant career as a wizard. So Slytherins aren’t necessarily bad. So, that puts Merlin - who seems to have valued personal power as an independent value of life - in the Slytherin House
